Hi all,

I decided today that I would give my car a Wash/Clay/Polish/Wax, so I have washed and clayed the car; I am now in the process of polishing using SRP.

I have used both a cheap machine polisher, and good old elbow grease on both doors, and the results are terrible. They are both scratched and swirled as they were before, and this is after 3 'passes' (is that the right word?). I've been spending time applying the SRP, and then waiting a minute or so to buff off; I've also tried waiting longer before buffing and nothing seems to work...

So I just wanted to know what I was doing wrong?

It depends how deep the scratches are as SRP works best on only light scratches. SRP isn't very abrasive - it tends to fill the scratches rather than cut them out (ala TCut).

You need to wipe on and rub with a bit of pressure over the area needing covered. Then let it dry to a haze - about 5 minutes. Then buff off with a clean mf cloth.

Right, so leaving it a longer time is better?

Yeah, but I am really not good friends with t-cut, so I stay away from that stuff lol!

EDIT: I've read something on detailing world, and basically it'll take a lot of time just to remove/fill the swirls.

My question is, if I removed 'some' today, would I be able to clean/clay my car next week and futher detail the car or would I not be able to do that?

You shouldn't need to clay too often - perhaps twice a yeah before applying a good coat of wax. Claying will remove wax, srp and any other product. SRP doesn't last all that long but does give a good shine. If you have major problems with scratches you might be best off letting a professional buff then out.
