Lately (because the windows are usually open) I've noticed a quiet squeaking/screeching noise from I assume the clutch plate when I press the pedal. It doesn't even need any pressure, I just touch the pedal and it starts. Is this normal or a symptom of something bad to come?

Sound to me like a release bearing

Or as the Americans say throw out

Need to be confirmed, should be the same in all gear and neutral and all road speeds, the only thing should alter the noise is clutch pedal position

If it's fairly quiet, it will probably last a fair while as it is, no guarantee but if you can only hear it with the windows down I'd not be overly concerned

Yourself or garage

It gearbox off so a full clutch kit

Around £360 upwards for someone to do it

I payed just over £40 for the parts and about £10 to change the oil
