Hi guys just had a nice letter through the post from west midlands police for doing 39 mph in a 30 mph . ........ at 16:20 on tuesday 17th of march 2009 ...... I work shifts and last tuesday at 16:20 I was at fooking work with my car in the works car park . !?!?!?! Looks like some ****** has cloned my plates Glad work has cctv and a digital clocking in system .
This happened to any one else ??
Cheers Adz

Get your evidence together. You need good proof both you and your car could not have been where they say it was. You also should ask for a copy of the speed camera photo. It may not a be a clone, they may simply have misread the reg plate.

This is a stupid piece of law where you have to prove yourself innocent rather than the normal way around.

i would get the cctv anyway, the more proof you have the better! also do you have any stickers etc on your car that could be easily seen, ie between your car and the 'clone'

na no stripe got hgt now lol . there is a patch on the boot from where badge was pulled off
. it should be ok a mate is a cop so he is gonna give me a hand . just so annoying !!!!!

the car might not even be the same colour that got caught. It would be worth asking for the photo evidence
in cases like this the police often come round and take photos of your car in order to compare it with the speeder. Its important to co-operate with this, as its your best chance of proving a cloned plate.

Most cases like this turn out to be operator error and they keyed in the wrong reg number.

my car has a dodgy borderline legal numberplate still able to be read from 20 meters away just curious if this is enough proof in case someone cloned my car?

plates can be changed in 5 seconds, so no it isnt proof. neither is a large dent, or stickers, or alloy wheels, or anything that can be fitted/removed quickly and easily. if that worked then everyone would use it, and lets be realistic even in the UK we do not allow loopholes like that.
