Technical Spark plug socket

Can anybody recommend a particular spark plug tool or socket I can buy to change my plugs?
I've ordered the plugs and a set of leads from euro car parts, just need a good gadget to get the plugs out.

8 valve or 16..??,
I tend to use a basic plug socket, ,BUT with a "knuckle" / U.J. ( universal joint)
on the extension bar,

as the 8v engine needs a few odd angles to get the plugs in + out..,
remember screw the plug in by hand until tight. then back-out 3 x turns,
if it feels really sloppy after 3 turns..you were in there cross threaded..!!

I've actually got a 3/8" extension with a "screwdriver" type handle on the end.. this is invaluable for nipping-up every nut, bolt, plug, etc, before torqueing down,



3/8" ratchet with a pivoting handle, great for tight spaces,


if you're spending money on basic hand tools, - buy something useful..!!,

iirc its a 16mm socket??

I have wobble extension bars and its nice and easy
Using those U/J are pointless sometimes....

When putting new ones back in, use your fingers on the extension bar - to gently wind it in
then with plug right down - you can then nip the plugs up

I must be boring no great advice here i just use an off the shelf spark plug socket.....

a decent halfords socket set will usually have everything you need

take the rubber out of the socket as these cause plugs to break because you cant feel anything

that's worse access than the 16V,


:idea: IF you can ... use an airline/pump to blow all the bugs/ leaves/road grit etc from around the plugs before winding them out,
even one at a petrol station..the day before doing the work would help,

Find out - get a 16mm onto the plugs

I leave it in for precisely that reason!

Never had any issues (or needed and weird Harold extensions) on standard 3/8 socket sets.
