I used to own a 197cup, Renault offer them for a great price, huge downfall of the car is that you are lucky to return 27mpg, drive it with authority you will see 16-17mpg. Really not good.

They are lovely cars inside and out, was it the fuel consumtpion that made you get rid?

I think this will have to be put to the test somehow, im dying to know. Ive never driven a abarth but i know that my GP is way way way faster than my mates clio 182. but i dont know how that compares to the abarth. (i might even say that so much faster that on B roads the time he would make up on the corners wouldnt be enought to catch up)

I'm sorry but a remapped GPS can't possibly be way way faster than a clio 182. Not a chance! Mine was level with a clio 197 and was running more than yours.

Big difference between old 182 and new 197. huge differences infact. Hows the new car treating you?

I think from reading earlier threads you take a few mpg of the computers mpg to get real world mpg. and if its been remapped take a couple more off. would mean im getting 54ish mpg on the motorway.
I might actually believe you on this one, if what you say about 5/6 full and change when the light is on is correct then

5/6 full is 5/6*45 = 37.5 litres
light comes on at 7 litres left so thats 30.5 litres used which is 6.7 gallons
which gives 58.1mpg :)

Well i dont have my GP anymore.

I'm more than confident it would mince an abarth on the straights, but on a B road (where it matters) I think the abarth would be showing its true colours.

I like the 197, but in true renault style I've heard they don't make the quoted power as standard. I think i'd take a 197 cup over the abarth tbh.

As I said though mate 27mpg driving like a tard. I would on a regular basis empty a tank in 180 miles. Bare in mind that it's a 55litre tank. The return is ****. I return 35mpg from my 205bhp 172cup and that is not hanging around.

I got rid of it Kris because of the fuel econamy yes, I started a job which required me to do a 60mile round trip 5 days a week. costing me about £65 a week in fuel on the 197cup. I use £45 a week in my 172cup.

No way a GPS remapped would stay with a 197 mate, they chew up ground at tremendous pace.
My 172cup is a different breed again, I wouldn't even suggest trying to outrun me in it. give you some sort of idea how fast it is, My mates have the following cars:
Bluefinned focus ST
Remapped Audi 225 TT
280bhp Subaru STI
Supercharged Toyota Celica
Astra VXR

The only car out of the above I have difficulty with is the STI, I am running about 215bhp/ton. At pod I ran 13.69@101mph as well. Clocks 0-62 5.4seconds. Brilliant tool. I am weighing about 980kg.

Ah right, yea I've heard the older clios aren't too bad on fuel in comaparison. I'm a masive fan of the 172cup, mainly because its faster than a 182 trophy ;)

A few friends have the 182, I really doubt you are that much faster than one, if at all.

The ST is mint, looks the bol*ocks and takes standard ones to the cleaners :)
Glad your enjoying the remap btw, I was down at reddot on friday.

what you got now kris?

do you still have the gsr kit off ur mjet?

Fiesta ST, nah peter has the Mjet GSR kit now, he's making alterations for the finished piece.

Its not up for debate mate, he is telling you he kept up with it.

I was no doubting what Kris said, especially that he said his is not just remapped. I was debating that just a re-mapped GP would stay with with a 197cup.

I have owned all cliosport variants and each have their downfalls and advantages. The 197's build quality is lightyears better than any other cliosport, the 1*2's were not that great and would develop a rattle religiously, you not even find out where the rattle was coming from, you would know roughly but trying to stop it is impossible. The power to weight ratio meant that the 1*2's boasted superior performance figures, the 172 cup and 182 Trophy both boasting a 0-60 time of 6.5seconds. Some 172cup's have been tested at 6.2second 0-60.
As I said though the 197 cup is superior in build quality, handling, looks. But it lets you down in the fuel econamy and straight line speed in comparision to the older variants. Still a brilliant car, Year after year Renault continue to produce the BEST hot-hatches on the market and there is no doubting that.

I'm not going to quibble over the performance of your 172 cup. I know how fast they are, they're quick. I've been annihilated by tuned versions before.

As for the 197, we were level, nothing in it whatsoever. Thats not just pub talk rubbish. Several members of this forum were present at the time and will vouch for this. Maybe the other guy couldn't drive, and then again maybe he could.

Btw everyone is hung up on bhp, bear in mind in diesels you need to know the torque. You can't really comapre petrol and diesel cars accurately based on bhp per tonne.

EDIT - Seen your above post now

beany i don't know what brakes are you interested in but to help you there is another member in here that has an m-jet with changed front brakes with 330mm disks and 8piston calibers. unfortunately i don't remember his name but if you search the threads you will find him.maybe you should ask him about the cost and brand. i personaly would prefer a 4 piston with 305mm than the abarths.not that they are not good but because with the same price you can get 4 piston not 2 piston that the abarths are. hope everything turns out well. keep us posted!

Level.....Until you come to a bend in your GPS and it carries on in a straight line...haha! (y)
