I didn't refer to you or anyone specifically as an idiot. I was referring to the group of alleged drivers who have nearly hit my car or knocked me off my bike and the proportion of those who have rear "Soccer Mom" tinted windows in relation to the other alleged drivers. If you are one of these alleged drivers then you are an idiot but considering you're in Derby our paths probably have not crossed and you can count yourself out.
I use the term "alleged drivers" because if any of them were driving to a standard expected of a competent and/or experienced driver (the legal definition of Due Care and Attention) then they would check their blind spots and not pull out paedo' tints or not.
I've spent the last two months driving to work because an idiot with "Soccer Mom" tints and sunglasses who overtook me on my bike and turned left before completing the maneuver. £300 worth of damage to my bike, dislocated shoulder, separated ribs from my sternum and strained intercostal muscles. The driver was traced (hit and run) and has been ordered to do a "driver awareness course" instead of points and a fine. His insurance company are stalling because I only want to claim for the damage to my bike. As I had no time off work there's no need to pursue an injury claim unlike the tens of thousands of people who claim thousands of Pounds and aren't injured. I'd rather add as little as possible to everyone else's insurance premiums.
The people who pull out on the Panda are what I call Womlings, they can't tell the difference between a small car and one that's further away therefore they assume they have enough time and space to do so. This happens a lot and is the primary cause of daily near misses and incidents.
There are also the Autodysfunctional egotists who pull out because they feel the Panda is below them in the roads social pecking order and will put themselves, myself and any other road user at risk to get ahead of me. Overtaking these alleged drivers on a dual carriageway usually means they floor it, break the speed limit and nearly crash into someone else checking to make sure I'm still behind them.
I have driven several vans, cars and other vehicles with various levels of tinted windows including a Mercedes Hearse that had adjustable privacy settings for the rear section. A little knob on the dash that when you turned it one way the windows blacked out and turn it the other way for them to clear. Not only was that brilliant but there was an automatic setting so the rear windows were like reactalight glasses.
I for one never, ever; ever wear sunglasses when driving any vehicle with tinted windows.
When the Police were hot on this topic they* would pull drivers over with perfectly legal (at the time) 10-20% tinted front windows and demonstrate to them how the tint measuring device worked and put their sunglasses through them as well. It is a combined tint from the sunglasses and the 10-20% front side windows that were measured and if the driver was nonchalant or offensive fixed penalty notices were issued.
* "they" refers to my ex-girlfriend who was head of traffic for Norfolk Police at the time and her subordinates.

Weird thing is, last car I got them fitted to. Was stop the kids being dazzled by the sun in the back of the car.

It's what they are referred to as in the motoring trade. As they are fitted to vehicles to transport children to school without the risk of pedophiles seeing your child/children in the back and do not in any way imply the owner of such modified vehicles are pedophiles.
Also known as "Soccer Mom windows" in the US or "dogging tints" further up North from where I am. I can use the "Soccer Mom" term from now on as it's the least offensive. Either way apart from looking cool there's little to no point in having rear tinted windows in any vehicle unless you have something to hide in the back that is.

I never heard them called paedo tints in all my time in the motor trade. I suppose it's more the type of people you associate with than an entire industry thing.

Do people not understand here that when your in a vehicle with tinted windows you can see out of them, Its not like suddenly it makes it into a van with no windows at the rear.
i googled it and it dont say that at all it says " When behind tinted shades it gives the paedophille a sense of safety, ... very thoughtful insight into the perceived psychology of the paedophile."
and why would anyone want tints if they are going dogging ffs defeats the whole point of dogging:bang:
uv light is dangerous, even if you have no passengers tint stops interior fading

And even if they did, there are hundreds of thousands of vans on the road
that are quietly going about their business and not leaving a swathe
of dented cars and broken bones behind them. Because side mirrors are
enough in 99.9% of scenarios.
