2 of my mates have crashed their cars so far in the snow, one has bent a wishbone and pushed the N/S front wheel so far into the arch the steering is locked straight ahead, and the other one's handbrake froze on and he spun it into a kerb buckling one of the front wheels...

I havn't crashed the Bravo yet and hopefully wont, just have to take it mega steady until you reach the main roads!!

erm...no comment...

Yeah his handbrake froze on when it was parked up and because there is an inch or more of snow on the roads he didnt realise, and when he went to turn into a corner and did a 270 and smashed one of the front wheels on the kerb on the opposite side of the road

Does that make sense?

my pickup wouldn't start, does that count? The one time of the year where a 4x4 is actually an advantage on a public road and THE BLOODY THING WOULDNT START!

Took the car to get a new battery for it and they sold me the wrong one, jump started it and took the battery back just to find they wee only open for a half day. GRRRRRRR

infact a 4x4 isn't the best for sonwy/icy days.. a very light car is better.. ecause in the event of a skid and loss of traction.. the vechile will increase velocity befor it starts to decrease due to loss of friction from tyre to road....

Thus.. 4x4's are generally heavyer.. so more momentum and harder to slop.. light car.. less weight.. will stop quicker :)

4x4 is only an advantage for pulling people out of the dyke, a little bit of off roading where u can't see the road & end up on the verge or for doing 4 wheels drifts and making a general mess on the fields :) :) me having fun 2day :) :)

cynic-al,

just wasn't your day! Plain to see Murphy at work with your 4 by 4 not starting on the very day you really need it. Still, made me smile if nothing else....sorry Al!

You're not alone either. After spending loads of cash on mine I heard an awful knocking sound....couldn't pinpoint it....thought it was a wheel bearing or something. Bugged me all day, but wouldn't happen when a passenger in the front seat. Typical, it made me look a liar. Then I noticed the seat belt clip was at right angles to the door...hitting it when I went more than 30mph! Hence the knocking....Murphy again!!

Loads of crashes around Nottm. So far I've not been involved. Think I'd best hibernate to make sure.

Cheers!

the 4wd is certainly more sure footed than my FWD. Especially when it comes to stopping, the car goes straight for the ABS which is a scary scary thing in the snow! You just slap the 4wd down a gear and it virtually stops. What is fun is leaving it in RWD, big tyres, hard springs at the back, no weight over the rear wheels, it just drives at 45 degrees all the time :D

nope, was a good boy to and from work, but the roads until i was in town werent treated and i live at the top of a big hill... :)

had a laugh at work though, mice massive untreated car park area for all the import / export cars that was empty and untreated, sooo worth getting to work an hour early for and having the calls diverted to my mobile :):):):):):):):):):)

What i find really funny is all the 'mums' in thier 4x4's think they can still drive like normal in the snow, just because they have 4x4's...lol

No snow here as yet, but the inch we managed in the last flourish seen off about 20 of them :)

still about 6inces of snow here :)

Umm..i haven't driven mine since last week friday, due to a messed up tyre! Been making sure to keep the snow off it though, and put on engine etc...hopefully getting new alloys/tyres soon, so thought id save myself the 70 odd quid getting one tyre!!

A friend of mine has bumped his front headlight tho! :p

Just been out taking the other half to work and the car park is literally a sheet of ice, i've just come back and set my video camera on record out of the window just incase someone decides to prang my little bravo then drive off.

It's happened before so I'm sure it will happen again, but i'll catch them this time. :)

im having great run pick up truck rear wheel drive. its sooooo entertaining.

only seen one crash so far. and to tell the truth im asking how!!! the road had been ploughed and gritted there was more grip than u get in the rain. and yet a car still ended up in the ditch lol
