Anyone know if any company out there does a Single Wiper conversion for the Cinq?

I'm trying to modify a scrap linkage I have, but its not being cooperative quickly, but I Will, nay WILL get there in a period of time, failing that, I'll buy one.

Ideas??

Cheers

Can that be done? I thought, well presumed that the linkages would be different

i have no idea if it can be done or not, but fiat are known for carrying parts from one model to another

Oh, I didnt know that one, it seemed the other way round! Ill have a look, Cheers!

The easiest way is to extend the original linkage by anything from 1-2"'s (not a definate measurement just a rough guess) this will extend the amount of sweep.

I have considerably more mods, THAN YOU!

i have decided today i will look at my wiper assembly, and possibly fabricate some bits :)

I have decided today that as soon as Donz has taken half his engine bay apart to get to the wiper linkage, he wish he did'nt!

yeah i got as far as seeing how to get to it, then decided i'd wait for the engine to cool, gonna be goin out shortly tho....

update

i got outside

it was raining

but i actually persevered

got the current setup out of the car

i'm looking at it, i can see two choices for increasing the arc that the wiper passes thru

1. increase the size of the bit on the motor thus providing a larger circle on the motor end and therfore more movement at the wiper end

2. decrease the size of the bit at the wiper end, therfore decreasing the amount of movement needed to enable the larger arc

now option 1 will require the fabrication of a new piece of metal

option 2 however should just need a new hole drilled

anyone follow?

i'd take a photo, but parents-in-law borrowed me camera and haven't returned it yet :O

ok went with option 2, drilled a new hole, bad place for it tho, went too far.

so option 3, go and see a m8 with a welder and reposition it again, and get it welded on the end.

so i put it all back in to the car, and bugger its only about a 20% increase in arc when i need about 60%

oh well i'll just need to rip it all out again tomorrow :)

should have listened in maths during triganomawhatsit :D

isnt option 2 going to increase stress on the wiper motor? wouldnt option 1 be better[?]

it might, but i think it will be ok, as it is now only moving one wiper instead of two.

well after another cut n weld its now sweeping about 75% of the window, not great but it won't withstand, i'll pull it all out again another day and use the current bit as a guide to chopping the extra bit i have from the other side to get it perfect

but it is most definatly possible to do it as a DIY job - provided you have a welder....

Nice one mate, with option 2 it might possibly put the linkage under more stress as the wipers hit warp 9 (as they do)!

How much do you reckon it needs to be extended by ??

Well what I've done was complicated.

Firstly i tried extending the part that attaches to the motor longeer, I extended it by about 50mm, but that was too much and was too unpredictable.

I have now shortened this to its original length and am experimenting with shortening the piece whih drives the centre wiper by 10mm, after reading up on it. That swept about 65-75% of the screen. Ive now shortened the piece by a further 10mm and have reversed the arm that drives it. That should do a bit more (70-80% I Guess).

I'll put some pics up once I get the cam back, but that wont be until weds!

Also with regards to using maths on this one - Ive just done Maths and Physics a-levels and im completely clueless about how to solve this one!!

well i would say that i chopped the middle linkage down to 1/3 of its current size

i stayed clear of the motor end, in what way did you reverse the arm arse?

yeah i had a think about the maths too - then gave up and got the angle grinder out

I reversed the arm because on the Cinq it is about 500mm long with a 30 degree bend in it at one end. This end usually is towards the motor but because the linkage at the other end moves further, it would be forced apart, because if the arm is not reversed, it hits the wiper pivot bit. I really cant explain it, ill have to get some pics!

I can sympathise with the angle grinder, it just seemed too complicated and i got bored working it out so I just blindly guessed.

I recommend attempting it on a scrap linkage like I am doing- given the Great Broitish Weather cant exactly be relied upon and the Cinq screen is not great at shedding water!!
