Technical Simple Job? Air filter change

in the end i used a pair of filter grips, i like to do oil changes while its hot - the oil flows out better - its trying to spin it off with your hand without burning it on the manifold thats the really tricky bit, my right hand ended up looking like freddy kurgers face by the time the new one was fitted.(n)

Grips are ok for filter removal 'cos damaging the filter's not an issue. But tightening with grips is another matter...

well my arm took a scoulding, but it was possible from the top, standing by the drivers wheel and wearing a pair of rubber gloves for extra grip but your right peril, access is tight so i could only turn it a flat at a time but i got there. I must agree with richy though? never tighten with grips, once the rubber seal (which should be lubbed first) touches the filter housing, just a "nip" should be sufficeint to stop the oil weaping, using tools just makes it harder the next time to remove.
