im still using 5.1.1 at the moment on my 4s due to having my fingers burned in the past with updating to latest ios only for it to be problematic. is it now ok to update to it?

what will i benefit from it?

i tried to research this but all the results seem to be about jailbreaking the phone, which i dont want to do!

I'm running 6.1.0 and no issues, they've changed some things to make it look a bit better but its more or less the same. If you use maps often, I suggest you reinstall Google Maps since 6.x+ removes it and instead you get Apple Maps (iirc), which tried to tell me to drive clockwise all the way round the M25 when I only needed to go about 30miles anti-clockwise to get to my destination :bang:

i do use the maps thing, but not as a sat nav, and i do tend to ignore the directions on it.

I wasnt going to do it, but recently had problems with apps shutting down and i have about 3gb of "other" on my phone, which is usually a sign that ios is playing up.

I upgrade my phone and iPad pretty much as soon as the update appears on the phone had 6.1.2 for a couple of days no problem, iOS 6 has been out for long enou now that all the bugs from the initial 6.1.0 are all ironed out so you should see any problems running the iOS
Just might take a long time to update as you're going from iOS 5 to 6

Thanks, I've found it impossibly hard to duplicate even after watching a video on how to do it.
Doesn't worry me personally.

Likewise.... Perhaps my coordination has decreased as my age has increased...?

Also: I never let my phone out of my sight -- it's too important to me (and not for the usual reasons...). :chin:

I'm not bothered about replicating the issue myself. What bothers me is the fact that pond life that nicks phones probably know how to do it.

I'd hold off till 6.1.3 is released. It's in beta 2 with developers now so should be released soon.

Agreed, i've tried it dozens of times I can't get it to work, and again my phone is never out of sight, and I don't go places its likely to get taken.

then again thats what insurance is for?

Insurance doesn't cover loss of personal data.

Like what? Pictures ? all on iCloud, email all on the internet, contacts names address text messages all Synced to PC/mac they can't change any passwords so i'm slightly confused as to what I will have lost ?

The point in locking it is to stop little fingers playing.

Yes. However how you you feel if someone nicked your phone and they had access to your photos and contacts? Rather defeats the purpose of putting a password and remote wipe functions on it.

Sorry, I was being flippant... -- but that is "theft", rather than "loss"; and, although I keep my phone with me at all times (because I'm disabled...); at least 99% of what is on it is either in the public domain, or not that sensitive.... Anything else is locked away in other password-protected apps....
