I was thinking this, but according to the recovery firm they're unlikly to do that because it could cause a danger to us in our drive

take it they have not seen jons back yard

If it was mine to salvage I would drop the engine/gearbox/front suspension assembly out the bottom of the shell as a unit [ undo the easiest mountings to get to ] Lift the shell up leaving the assembly on the floor
this is how the car is assembled in the factory and therefore the easiest way to disassemble .
just cut the cables and hoses with bolt croppers if they don't want to come off
Dont forget the ecu's [ engine and gearbox are seperate ]

Yep.

Making a list in my head. Not sure if engine and gearbox are likly to be buggared though. Engine took alot of the impact from rad and cross member. Come to think of it, don't ever remember seeing the cooling fan :p

Might see if she still goes (turn her over, but obviously not run due to no cooling system).

Pedal box and micro switches might be a pain to get out, wheel arch had shifted.

Center console also smashed but parts though of so far are

  • Compleate dash unit inc clocks switches etc
  • Wiring loom for alarm fitted
  • center console and selecta control bits
  • both ecu's
  • Selecta cable through bulkhead
  • Drivers door (not much damage tbh iirc)
  • Boot lid and rear screen
  • Screen plastic vent thing that I added
  • coil packs
  • washer resiviour
  • Front wiper motor and unit (if acessable concidering airbox is smashed to bits)
  • Heater matrix, again is acessable
  • Any remaining door locks, and ign barrel lock as all the same key
  • If engine and gearbox are not worth having I'm removing auto gearbox sump.
Also 4 rims with bald tyres, as ones on it are nearly new. Said they need tyres and rims to move it, so will have to sacrifice the worst.

Anything else

Jon (sorry about poor spelling)

you'll be amazed how hard it is to break an engine , the rad etc tends to absorb a lot of the impact and wrap itself around engine , the mounts will bend /break , the whole lump will shift back .
best not to try and turn it over if the cam belt / cover looks damaged . you might bend valves if the belt jumps .
if you've got space , keep it , its a lovely low mileage engine , its also easier to remove the whole lot and separate when out , esp as the engine bay is now smaller than standard .
selecta starter motor is also unique !

Yes. Forgot to add starter motor.

Thanks for the idea of not trying to start her, didn't thing about the belt.

Might get a mate with a petrol angle grinder to come down. Grind engine mounts off of chasis and take lump and gearbox like that. Then sort out tidying it up at a later date.

I especially want the gear box for spares. As you know Carl after tendering to her, she's a very good runner!

whoa, I don't get a decent look for a couple of days and all this happens:eek: Jon, really sorry to hear about the car/ glad it was only the car was done for/ replaced it already??!! etc.
maybe next week you'll have a quiet week;)

Thanks Andrew. Only busy day will be Friday week when we collect the new beast. Spoken to the seller and he's putting 6months tax on her on the 1st on our behalf so she's legal to drive home. The seller told us that he's had loads of people ring him up after the end of the auction still making offers for the car!

Dad got behind the wheel for the first time since the smash this morning. Took mum's Yaris down to Tesco and Lowestoft, was a tad shakey at first but is now bigging it up, in the Auto Astra he's been given, in South London. Said he had a stress free drive down in relation to the accident.

Oh, at Trev, it's a petrol angle grinder, not a little electric thing, I'm not worried about digits, more fearful for my limbs

not Rick (Default User) ?  check you have the same amount fingers when you have finished :D :D

Am I ever going to live this down? Come on Jon, do something silly again and take the heat off me!

"a little electric thing" can still do a lot of damage. :D

I'm glad everyone's ok Jon.

Fingers crossed it will be ok. If it bends a valve something is seriously bust, a crash doesn't stop it being a non-interference engine after all! Still, I would turn it over by hand first, if something in there is crook it would be a shame to break anything else.

Yes, the engine is non-interference, give it a try.
Rgds.

Great news (y)

Now be careful, 'Legless' should only mean drunk as a skunk !

Well the insurance acessor called today when I was at work.....

.........About the damage cause 6 weeks ago by the 80 year old in the Tesco carpark :p

It all sounds interesting though, as both companies should pay out of their own damage meaning the car will in essance be written off twice, and meaning 2 lots of payout :yum:

Anyone heard of such a thing  Sounds like it could be fun :p

It hink one may payout and it get declared write off to DVLA thenyou might get stiffed for driving a written of vehicle.. then no second pay out.. i guess the recent accident will pay more so i'd makes ure you get that first

But it wasn't written off. Technically still isn't, just roofless in storage somewhere :p

This is what the acessor was telling dad anyways. So it must be cosha :)

And nothing illegal or wrong with driving a CAT D/C write off car. Sisters mk3 is a CAT C write off but perfectly safe and legal to drive.

Quick update.

**** has hit the fan. Without permission (bear in mind legally it's still dad's car as it's not yet been written off) the Selecta has been moved to a place in Essex :mad::mad::mad:

Also had the insulting offer of £450 for her  :mad::mad::mad:

It's a ****ing joke! They best not be doing nothing with her, or there will be big trouble!!! :(
