Hi we have a fiat ducato motorhome on a 2019 plate with 13500 miles.
We had a transmission error come up on the dash board last August within a week of buying for a motorhome dealer, we returned the motorhome to them and they sent it to a fiat garage and the could not diagnose the problem as the fault code had cleared.
Fast forward to the end of July this year the fault reappeared just as we got of the ferry in france for our holidays. The fault cleared by restarting the engine. However by the time we had move a few times. A gear could not be found and would try grinding to engage the gear and would not drive. We had to be repatriated to the UK which was an experience and took over 4 weeks to get the van to the UK.
This went to our local fiat professional garage who diagnosed the fault as a clutch clearance issue and needed to replace the clutch release bearing and clutch. This has been done and 60 miles of road tests have been completed to re learn the gears. We went to pick the motorhome up the following day and the issue was back present on the vehicle the technician tried to move the vehicle and it would not find reverse only crunch the box. They have since diagnosed the problem further and now air is in the clutch hydraulics and are saying the selspeed unit needs to be replaced as it is sucking air in and that this is consequential damage caused by the clutch clearance.
I don't know enough about the units but could it be a damaged selspeed unit that cause the clutch clearance issue if air was been sucked in in the 1st place giving an air block and the clutch not working properly?
We are in a predicament as the 3rd party warranty won't cover the selspeed replacement as they are saying it consequential damage.
Any help or experiences would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Jonathan
