General seicento running rough

hi everyone love the site!!, i have just got my little seicento on the road, its running abit rouugh, on start up in the morings its runs and cuts out, when it warms up its still runs rough when im at a set of lights on tick over, i have a red light on my dashboard like a hose with 3 lines spraying out dont no what it means if any1 could help me on this matter i would be gratefull, cheers guys

Engine management light is on.

I guess yours is SPi, so you have a sender paying up somewhere.

Meter out and check against the nominals.

thanks for the reply! its a s reg 899 seicento s, i have read a though posts on here does it souns like the lamba sensor? or what could i do to test if it is the lamba, or find out what the problem is, also whats a rough place for a windscreen for my car, its cracked!

Its unlikely to be the lambda.

Open the bonnet when its dark, look for odd sparks.

ill have a look gota go an pick the missus up from work ina min!! would that be the coil pack, wheres about under the bonnet is it, i read that spraying them with wd-40 helps is this true, ill have a look when i go out in half hour cheers ill get back to you

Coil pack (two coils) right hand end of head.

Follow the spark plug leads you will find them.

Look at the coils, the plugs and the leads.

Don't bother with WD40, replace whats leaking.

i have just had a look where the leads go back to them 2 plates on the side of the engine, i couldnt see any sparks, would i have to take the leads of to see the sparks? (might sound like a stupid question!), would putting a dose of red ex in with the fuel would that help, and changing the plugs an leads, i also carnt find the windscreen washer bottle!!:worship::worship:

If there are no visible sparks, thats a good thing.

However you will need to start diagnostics to find the problem.

DON'T just start changing parts, do the work first.

With the car running badly, remove and refit each spark plug lead in turn.

Note which, if any, make no difference to the running.

i tried to test the sprk plugs with the engine running took the lead of the plug an got a few nice shocks!! is this right? also there is like a clickin or tickin noise on the top of the engine is this normal, you seem like the man to ask!! cheers paul:worship::worship:

if your getting electric shocks coming in pulses off the HT leads this is a good sign. did the engine run any different with the leads off ?? oh yes in the future if you wanna avoid the electric shocks use some grips with a rubber handle

If the ticking is inside the air cleaner bit, yup, thats a good thing. Its the injector.

Get back to us once the electric shocks have died down and tell us what happened to the engine when you removed the plug leads.

Sorry, I stoopidly thought you would realise that 20,000 volts down your arm ain't a good thing.

Insulated pliers next time.

evening all, took the ht leads of one by one, all seem to be sparking, but its till running rough, so if the ht leads are sparking, does that mean the coil packs are ok, i dont no what to think now what it could be

Did you remove and refit the plug leads while the engine was running?

Which pot(s) made no difference to the running?

didnt really hear a change i dont think, would it just be best to change all the spark plugs? do you think it could be the plugs, found the washer bottle by the way!! ha ha stupid place ouldnt of spotted it, i just want it running right, i out 25 quid in an got just under 220miles, oes that sound bout right

Why change the plugs when you don't know what is wrong yet?

you pulled the plug leads off one by one and didn't notice any difference in the engine with any of them?

take the car to a garage.

i forgot to mention that number for or number 1 spark plug, on the passenger side, didnt really change the engine, so ave bought a new set anyway cause im gonna give it a service, ill let ya know how i get on, wen its warm it seems ok,

After discovering that number four didn't make much of a change, did you swap out the leads?

What i would try is.. take the drivers side wheel off and you should see the crank temp sensor.. Whap it out and clean it up. Stick it back in! try it see if it works

yes where would it be when i take the wheel off? do you think that this could be the cause of it running rough, i have changed the plugs an air fillter, da coil packs seem ok sending out the sparks!!
