I removed holding clip on connector on engine side of fuel filter in order to get the connector off by screwdriver last Saturday.

Put new fuel filter on but can't get connector back on because it is leaking.

I bought an 80 piece Glarks kit of fuel line retainer clips but none of them seem to be right.

Fuel is dripping from new fuel filter so have had to put cover cap over it that came with new filter to limit the leak but not 100%.

How do I fix this?

I have ordered a couple of new right angle quick connectors on amazon.

How do I get the old connector out of the fuel hose running from filter to engine.

How do I get new connector into hose so I can reconnect to the new filter?.

Is there a better way of doing this?

Appreciate any suggestions on how to fix this.

What seemed like an easy job has turned into a mare.

Thanks.

A photo would help.
If you have a good fitting on the clip end, then maybe a short bit of fuel rubber hose and some crimped connectors. You may need to fit a tube inside the plastic to prevent it crushing when crimping the clip on the rubber hose.
Alternatively can you get a second hand piupe from the car breakers?

Hi Bugsymike,

Thanks for coming back.

As requested attaching photos of
1. New fuel filter attached to car
2. Damaged right angle connector coming down from fuel hose running from engine side of filter to engine.
3. Extent of damage to connector given retainer clip is completely gone.

The yellow piece on filter is the cap that came with which I am using to stop the drip of fuel from filter.

Hope this gives a clearer view of the situation

Thanks

@bugsymike
Hi,
Any suggestions after seeing the photos.
Nothing available in junkyard as these cars are very thin on the ground over here in Ireland.
Have bought a few quick connects but none fit on arm of fuel filter to click on to keep it on.
Is a quick connect what I'm looking for or is it called something else??
Any suggestions from anybody much appreciated or even if someone a knows what replacement retainer clip to to use to replace the one that broke off per photos.
Still Grounded 😩😩😩

Sorry your post yesterday didn't flag up.
I see your problem and it's not uncommon. basically caused by people "jagging" the wrong tool in trying to release the clip, they can be a pain but I always found if WD40 or similar was sprayed around before trying to release them they came apart.
Odd looking filter you have, is it a bit universal, but presumably the clip at other end is working properly?
The kit you bought, does one of those fit the end of the filter and what is the fitting at the other end?
The broken clip, is the O ring seal inside working OK but just the clip not holding onto the new filter, or is it totally destroyed.
If seal works but clip "sub optimal" as they say then as a temporary fix it may be possible to use plastic ratchet ties to secure the fitting in place so it stops the pipe from sliding off away from the seal as not high pressure.
If the new clip/fitting seals on the filter, does it have a other end that could slide inside the original plastic pipe beyound the broken clip once the plastic is gently warmed, not with a naked flame and then secure with a clip.;););).
Another option is to get good quality proper rubber fuel pipe that will fit over the original plastic pipe and carefully secure it with crimped fittings, you may have to check it doesn't try to squash the plastic pipe maybe by fitting a suitable insert. It will mean changing the fuel filter for a more universal type one with correct diameter ends, many cars in the past had that type of arrangement. The other option is a genuine front to rear Fiat part, I needed that on a Fiat Doblo diesel many years ago and even then they wanted £200 for the flow and return pipe.
I bought a length of fuel type rubber hose and clips from the motor factor for £7 and it did a permanent job.:)

Thanks Bugsymike,
I have ordered another new filter per attached photo.
Its a Mapco and reason I've ordered it is because it has 2 plastic retaining clips on it.
Do you think these will plug the gap on the connector that is caused by the missing/broken retaining clip or am I desperately clutching at straws.
There was a similar type clip in the kit I bought which said it was 5/16ths but that did not on filter pipe.
The connection as it stands clicks on to the filter arm but there is a fuel drip presumably because of missing clip and gap where it used to be.
I don't really get how to do cable ties or plastic/rubber hose you suggest which I'm sure would work if my dumbnut head could figure it out.
How do those clips from bought kit supposed to go into connector??
Picture shows the types in kit but none seemed to fit the connector/pipe to replace the broken/original one that was there.
Thanks so much for your time and help.
Much Appreciated

I have never used one of those repair clips, you could try and find one that does the job, if you are lucky.
I thought you meant a complete new plastic end for the fuel pipe.
Was the first new filter wrong then compared to the original?

No filter bought originally was confirmed to be for Fiat Seicento and was fine except for me wrecking the pipe connector thing with my screwdriver trying to remove it from the old filter that was on car when I bought it a few weeks back and probably on car since new. Can you buy a new fuel line that runs back from carb all the way back to filter that would have pipe/connector yoke on it so it would connect with new fuel filter. Would that solve the problem?

Fiat or EPER on Forum may have a listing or part number for that, not sure if it is available, but it would be the safest option.:)
