Panda (Classic) SEAT Marbella (Mk1 Panda replica).

Was great to catch up at Wiscombe.. hope that you can overcome your engine traumas, looks nasty.

Dan

Hi Dan, sorry I got a bit sidetracked. Seems this engine is an absolute bugger to get parts for and seem to be failing to find a head gasket for it. Got a couple of leads to follow up tomorrow but otherwise I'll be entering crystal palace in the white 4x4 panda if they will let me  It won't change my result though, I'll be last in either class haha!!!

No sleep till monday I think...

i just did a quick search and found a headgasket, spesso one but the price is eye-watering so deep breath before clicking the link... is a proper decent one though

But i'd be inclined to get a spesso anyway if you can bring yourself to spend that much on a gasket....

Thanks for the links, might consider the spesso gasket for future but managed to get one in the end thanks to my Dad for ringing around. I got 2 sets and 2 bolt sets as well. But with the damage done to the bore I think it won't be long before the cylinder head is back off again . Just have to get this event out the way on sunday.

Anyway, as I am learning this engine now it took me a little while to develop the technique so only got the head back on this evening.

Very odd engine with thinner studs on the front and bigger bolts at the back of the cylinder head and even with the crows foot tools I just bought impossible to tighten up the nuts as they had a special tool at Fiat. Had to guess the torque using the calibrated elbow for 2 of the nuts but fortunately the angle bit removes some of the inaccuracy at least!

So tomorrows job...put EVERYTHING else back on! and hope all that was wrong was the head gasket and the cylinder bore is just terrible looking but functional!

Also, if anyone is wondering...hmmm how do I stop it from raining. Just go to excessive lengths to keep dry like this...

Not a drop of rain all evening even though it was wet all day to this point

And the momentous occasion...the placing of the new head gasket :)

If I have time I will post before leaving for crystal palace...whichever car it ends up being

Best of luck Si :) You certainly have been grafting. Do you think the cylinder damage will affect performance?

Studs and head bolts? I get the impression its not an engine built down to a price like a Fire motor.

Just a quick message before I go off the dreamland to work on more pandas!

Got the Marbella back together and seems to be running ok although a little smokey but perhaps just burning off a bit of oil / water residue. Definitely going to need a rebuild soon! And some sleeves in the bores most likely!

So tomorrow all set to go play in London. As always, if bored and in the area I will be here :p...

Cheerio!

Well, what a weekend that was! (in fact what a week!) I made it to crystal palace after getting everything ready 11:30 the night before. In my haste I forgot a couple of things when putting it all back together. The fan switch connector...err not connected and it got to 110 degrees as I was pulling up to park in the Paddock!

Then after the first practice run I discovered I had left the vacuum advance pipe off the ECU!! didn't feel any different with it off...how the hell is that possible! hopefully not dangerous for the engine...makes me wonder what the ECU actually does with that sensor lol.

Other than that though no dramas and a great day out with the family. Some fantastic cars there including a Abarth Strada and a Lancia Montecarlo (my favourite) The suspension looked a little soft on it but also seemed to be having fun with some rear wheel steer!

Will post up some pictures and videos up...about time I started putting together videos of the events from this year!

Well, as promised, video uploaded and ready for your consumption

It looks much slower than it feels

And I had never been there before and didn't entirely trust my repairs (let me know how the racing driver excuses are sounding)...also there was oil spilt on the final bend (you can see the massive dark patch smudged all the way round on the second practice or first timed run onwards). That was a mini which by the look of it dumped the entire contents of its sump! :(

Anyway a great day, and recovering slowly from the madness  No more events planned this year, so will plod on with the things I have been meaning to sort out and see if there is time to get in one last event towards the end of the year. Suspension suspension suspension!!

Are you going to Shelsley Walsh Si? Even if you're not going up the hill it would be good to see you there as part of the stand (y)

Hmmm, I wasn't planning to but possibly. When is this? And how much notice would be required? :D

what is rattling on left turns??

That noise is something rubbing in the arch and I have failed to find out what it is since putting this car together! But soon it will have stiffer suspension and smaller wheels which won't rub so hopefully the last of it :D

We shouldn't be limited for space & you pay at the gate, so the day before?! ;)

Ooooo, I remember thinking about doing this one last year. Well I'll put it in my calendar for to remind me to check. My plans for this year are a little behind.

Thanks for the info, will notify asap! Maybe even go up the hill...:slayer:

Hill good! :worship:

Not sure I'm brave enough - it's the people watching put me off, in case I make a complete horlicks of it!!

We'd like you there anyway, even if not doing the hill. (y)
