Hello
I have just put a order in for my new sub and amp deal.
the deal consists of pioneer tw305c 12" sub and kenwood kac-7251 amp. when ordering i was asked if i wanted a sealed or ported sub box, the guy suggested i have the sealed as the amp has a remote bass boost and therefore will cover all types of music?
I dont know the difference between the 2. i listen to dance, hip-hop mostly and just want a nice sound not overly loud that makes the car rattle to bits.

Which should i go for Ported or Sealed thankyou

Richard

Get a sealed box, ported boxes are louder but are very driver specific. Get the box slightly wrong and it sounds dire. Sealed boxes are more forgiving.

Re: Re: Sealed or Ported Sub Box

when you buy a new sub you should get an instruction book with it telling you what cubic capacity your box should be, should it be ported or not and what size should the port be etc etc, or check the subs website too. Most infor should be on there

if not like Tom said a sealed box is a good option if you have no idea what the correct spec box for your sub is

Re: Re: Re: Sealed or Ported Sub Box

You have to be careful with some subs, they just don't like ported boxes... even though they list a ported box in the instructions.

Ok im sticking with the sealed box.
im sure sealed will be loud enough and also ive heared now that they give better sound quality which is what i want.

Thankyou for your help

Its the safe bet. You can spend all year tuning and tweaking ported boxes, I have....

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Sealed or Ported Sub Box

Sorry to "steal" a post, i have 2 5" subs at work for some reason the ported box they was in was smashed up and the subs left there, There are no names or model number on them nor any wattage ratings etc, Would i beable to make a box for these or is it simply not worth it?

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Sealed or Ported Sub Box

You'd really need to know the make and model otherwise you are just guessing.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Sealed or Ported Sub Box

There are a few software packages that may be able to help you out.

You can put in the details such as size of the speaker, power etc...and it will give you an estimate for the size of the box.

You need to know the T/S parameters for that to help.
