We have a scudo 1.6 multijet that. Came up with low oil pressure warning it was stopped immediately. But on investigation it was found that turbo was shot. It has been suggested that this was caused by clogged pipes and is a fairly common problem. I am reluctant to replace with another used engine if this is a common problem Question is this does the diagnostics sound correct and how big a problem is it to fix.

Any advice would be appreciated

For any turbo engine, regular oil changes are vital.

If the oil fouls up, it can cause premature end to turbo life expectancy

You need clean oil which will flow freely to and from the turbo ensuring the bearings in the turbo are sufficiently lubricated

In terms of repair, if you replace the turbo and ensure all pipe work is thoroughly clean followed by regular oil and filter changes, there is no reason for you to experience problems in the future

Hope this helps
