General Scrappage scheme with the 500?

I've just been told that Fiat Dealers were informed yesterday that the 500 is eligible for the scrappage scheme. I'm going into the dealer on Saturday to order one for the wife.
Will keep you posted!:)

Who told you?

Are there any conditions?

Conditions are as outlined previously, you have to have owned the car for 12 months, it must have an MOT, insurance and tax and if not taxed must be SORN and IIRC still be MOT'd. That's all.

Sorry, I meant...

Are there any conditions on which car you can BUY?

I ask because I gather that some manufacturers only let you use the scrappage scheme joker card if you're buying a particular version of their car in particular colours of their choosing, and that sort of thing.

Can we just go into a Fiat dealer and real off a long custom spec and still expect to get the 2000 squid?

I ordered what I wanted on a 500 and got £2k off list price :)

Have you not read this thread? If your dealer doesn't know anything about the scheme find another one who is willing to do a bit of legwork and sort it for you. If they can't be bothered to find out now then how bothered will they be if you have an issue with your car?

I ordered my car from Slaters in Abergele and got the 2k discount.

I've read the thread thoroughly and was wondering why my dealer has no knowledge and why Fiat UK maintain the line that that nothing has been officially announced for the 500.

Luckily for you Slaters are playing ball, some of us are still in the dark and want to know what's going on without having to sift through off-topic banter.
Are Slaters part of a bigger independent group that have decided to jump the gun on the official Fiat notification and offer it regardless? :bang:
At least I can give my dealer an example of another dealer offering it and see what happens.

I think it's just a matter that your dealer either isn't all that bothered or is trying to chance things and make some extra money on you. I would give them an ultimatum, sort it out for me by date x or I go to another dealer and buy the car from them.

Slaters are a "family owned motor business" - http://www.slaters.com/ so i take it not part of a larger group :)

I've been speaking to Mark there and he's been excellent  If you live anywhere near North Wales I can certainly reccomend them

Mark showed me a printout which showed that manufacturers had to offer ALL of their models if they opt into the scheme. I don't understand why Fiat are not publicising this more, though if it means I get my car a little quicker because there are less 500 orders in front of mine then it's all good :)

My dealer on monday told me that if your in the scheme it has to be all across the range, it's just that Fait don't want them to shout about it as they can shift the 500's as fast as they can build them. It does NOT apply to the Abarth, as they are considered to be a different manufacturer.

Hi - my dealer still does not know anything (or won`t say!). I just spoke with Fiat UK and they are still holding the line that at the moment the Panda is the only confirmed car and that whilst dealers may be taking deposits / orders, none of them know yet whether or not the 500 will be included in the scheme! They said that they don`t have to make a decision until 18th May and will clarify the situation before then - phone back next week! Fiat seem to be making a real mess out of this?

I've been talking to two dealers, one is taking refundable deposits and the other one (Arnold Clark) rang me to inform me they had just heard that the 500 was eligible. I want certain extras so will be going for a factory order although the salesmen did say they have pre-ordered a quantity and we could see if any of them fit my requirements.
It could be they are jumping the gun to shift stock but would they risk losing 1000 of margin?

Probably because by taking part in the scheme, they have to fund £1000 of the scrappage discount.
True but there's going to be crapload of margin on 500's. I mean I've ordered £670 of extras on my car as well as ordering the sport which is £1400 more expensive than the pop which is not uncommon, Fiat will still be making a crapload even after losing £1000 on the car

How long do you think these government scrappage funds will last for? I won`t be able to afford to buy for about 3 or 4 months. Probably all finished by then knowing my luck.

the problem is fiat isnt discounting the cars by 1k yet and until that time the 500 wont be included in the scheme... as they would lose money having to pay 1k towards the 2k government scheme:bang:
I don't mean to be rude but I've already placed an order with a dealer who confirmed with me that the 2k discount is in place and also showed me govt documentation to show that ALL models had to be included in the range. I should be getting an order form soon, if it has the price shown on there I'll scan it and post it up on the forum as proof!

I'm just amazed that people seem to be ignoring the fact that people ARE placing orders with this scheme being in place. If your dealer doesn't want to play ball then find another one.

It will run until March 2010 or until the budget runs out. I cant see it running out in 3 or 4 months.
Well I would assume that the funding will last a while, but I'd get my order in ASAP. If you only need to car in 3-4 months then wait another 2 months or so and then order and the timings should work for you :)

Just been looking into this scrappage scheme, out of curiosity, and noticed the following:

The vehicle you are trading in must:
be a car or small van weighing up to 3,500 kilograms (kg)
be first registered in the United Kingdom (UK) on or before 31 August 1999
be registered with the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) in your name
have been registered to you continuously for 12 calendar months before the order date of the new vehicle
have a UK address on the registration certificate (V5C)
have a current MOT test certificate before date of order for the new vehicle

Note that it says "before date of order". Not "on date of collection". I think some dealers have been misinforming people. This comes from the Direct.gov.uk site here

That maybe the case, but the form my dealer asked me to sign stated that MOT had to be in place at time of collection as well as ownership of 12 months plus etc.
