General Scrappage scheme with the 500?

I finally got the call from my dealers yesterday afternoon that I had hoped for, they received notification a day or two ago that the scrappage scheme will be eligible to get a discount on the 500.
Good job really as both the 500's I've ordered are on transit right now. Phew!

Be interested to hear whether your dealer will let you include your 500's on their way to you. (i hope they do btw) I got a similar call today from my dealer telling me the "good news" but, the bad news is they are not prepared to sell me the one I've ordered (due in the country next week) and include the scrappage allowance.... also not prepared to cancel and re-order the same vehicle? happy for me to order another one of course but, I won't get the same finance deal and have to wait 12 weeks, not the 8 i am part way through now! Anyone else had a similar experience?

The scheme doesn't officially start until the 18th, could that be the reason? My dealer told me that I'd get the scrappage discount even though I ordered a couple of months ago. Perhaps it's because mine and my wife's don't arrive until after the 18th.
If that's not the case it sounds like sharp practice to me. Keep us posted and I'll update too as things pan out.

Are you scrapping two old bangers, one for each 500?

Wouldn't appear to be arrival time, arrives on boat next week but with customs etc.. not due with us until last week of May. Would not be right to comment on their practice in this forum but, I may choose to vote with my feet and take my money elsewhere! Next step, visit another dealer in the morning and see how their version of the whole scrappage story pans out.

I believe under the (governments) terms of the scheme, the scrappage discount can only be applied to orders placed from the 18th May onwards. You are currently able to register an 'Expression of Interest' but not order under the scheme.

That can`t be right either, as you have already been able to order a Panda under the scrappage scheme for at least a week now?

We were fortunate enough to be looking into purchasing a 500 before we got wind of the scrappage scheme. After the announcement we visited the garage and put down a £200 deposit on a stop start in the showroom. We pick the car up on the 18th as the dealer said no cars under scrappage can be collected before this date. Can't really believe we were able to get a car this quick and with the scrappage allowance. Plenty of dealers are offering the deal so the message is clear if one won't play ball go elsewhere!

Well, it's ordered and I've got my 2000 discount under the scrappage scheme. Should find out Monday when to expect delivery but it looks as if it will be about six weeks as the car will be one of a number the dealer has forward ordered and is at the stage of build where minor modifications can be made.
In fact the salesman was keen to dealer fit the wheels and stripes to a car in transit to ensure delivery this month!
Will keep posted on progress but it appears some dealers are embracing the scrappage and others are trying to avoid it!

Agreed. My dealer has been nothing short of excellent

sjc500maybe, if your dealer doesn't want to offer it or is trying to weasel out of it then cancel the order. I suspect you could probably also report them as well to Fiat and perhaps to whoever is running the scheme. They are basically trying to defraud you. They either take part in the scheme or they don't, it's part of the rules and if they don't want to take play ball I'd really go out of my way to cause them problems. Fair enough they're not jumping out of their skin to take part as they'll lose money but it's the rules.....

i read few days ago in the paper a few cars thats going to be with the scrappage, and they mentioned a 500 which will come down to £6100. ive looked on the fiat website but it still says its the panda eco only. i wonder then if it will be possible to get a 500 on the scrapage hmm we will see.

You can get the 500 on scrappage

I just e-mailed my local wessex garage in cardiff and enquired about a basic 500 pop in white after the scrappage insentive.

They quoted me £6789.00. So that £1500 less the RRP.

Do you think this is the correct?

I was hoping it be more £6300 for the basic car.

That is definitely wrong - I have just ordered a basic car for £6300 plus any cost options. I even got mats thrown in, but couldn't get anymore discount off the RRP.

You should be paying list price less £2k!

thanks for the info rich. Will e-mail the dealer again.

I would like to get aircon ontop of the basic pop....but I dunno if its worth it. The aircon system might suck in the 500?

I think £6300 should have been the orginal list price for this car...over 8 grand is kinda crazy! lolz

What a bunch of to55pots. I'm really shocked and amazed at the greed of some dealers. That is just wrong. They can't choose their discount. It's 2k! 2k! 2k or 2k!

I certainly wouldn't deal with the dealer you're using, find another one who is honest and not trying to cheat you out of £500! Who knows what they will try with you in the future when you go there to rectify a problem or get the thing serviced?

Thanks for posting this :) This clears things up for a lot of people now.

I am shocked and apalled at some of the stuff that stealers are trying on with people, I can understand Fiat not wanting to shout it out because their margins are good on the 500 at the moment and this is effectively a £1000 hit for them on each car but for a dealer to try and lie about it and effectively steal £500 from someone or further above in this thread for a dealer to claim that the scrappage scheme thing is based on the order date rather than the delivery date is downright honest!

Dealing with a dishonest dealer now is only going to come back and bite you later on.....

Do you think there would be any chance of a small extra discount if you walked in and said you would buy today with cash or cheque?

I visited a nearby dealer on Saturday 9th May. I was informed that I could get £2000 off any car so long as it was NOT an Abarth (500 or Punto).

If anyone knows of a dealer who will offer the £2000 scrapage on the 500 Abarth, do let me know.
