Hi,

Just calling in here to say 'Hi' having recently bought a silver 2009 multijet.

I'm trying to avoid asking too many questions that are already discussed at lengths in the forum ;)

On checking the oil level it looks way too high so I'm guessing either a simple overfill or it's trying to regen the DPF and flooding the engine which I've seen reference too.

Is there a indication of the ECU starting a regen cycle or how long ago it did or can you only get this via the diagnostics port?

I have also got corrosion on the inner surface of very bottom of the tailgate which was disappointing discovery, but have already raised that directly in the Panda area in case anyone has seen similar or has ideas.

Thanks for the already warm welcome and helpful hints, already a great help :)

Hi there. I have a 2008 Multijet. My car doesnt have a DPF and I doubt if yours would either. When my car is garage serviced, it always comes back with the oil level above the marks on the dipstick. Hasnt been a problem so far. No sign of corrosion on my tailgate either. Regards Pete

Hi Pete, thanks for coming back so quickly. I'm confused re the DPF as I thought they were fitted from around 2006, without crawling underneath is there an easy way to tell? I seem to recall the colour on one of the letters on the 'multijet' badge gives a clue, mine is blue.

When the horizontal rain stops I'm going to see how they've screwed on the number plate and see that gives me a clue as to the tailgate corrosion.

Thanks again Pete.

Although a newbie, I would question the "My car doesn't have a DPF" remark.

Easy way to tell: Open the bonnet, look down at the yellow oil filler cap, look slightly lower and to the right of it and you will see the black heat shield over the oil filter, look lower still and to the right of that and you will see an aluminium cover, which is a shield under which is your DPF. If your Multijet is 2008 or 2009 then you should have one - unless a canny previous owner has removed it!

easyway to tell if your mjet has dpf fitted is red j in multijet, blue j non dpf seems to cover all mjet diesels.seem to recall all panda mjets 169 chassis code have no dpf fitted.

should be correct.. maybe the VED - car tax - is lower too ( with DPF), ;)

too much oil = COULD blow oil seals..!!:(

I learn something new each time I visit here!
My 2009 1.3Multijet has a dpf and a blue 'J'.
Now I'm really confused.

But if the Mot tester looks for a blue 'J' and assumes there was no dpf originally if he sees one, does that mean I can take it off and still pass?
Funny old world.

Thanks guys for the replies, looking closely at the area sweetsixteen mentioned gave me the answer ok, there's definitely one there. It does suggest then that some 'blue J' multijets do have a DPF. I've tried to upload some photos but looks like I need to have them on the web first rather than just uploaded from the phone etc.

Anyway oil and filter changed and level checked, will keep a close eye on the oil level.

Thanks guys

Jon.

I think that's the catalytic converter. Apparently panda multijets have such low emissions they escaped having a DPF fitted for a time when most other Diesels had to have them fitted. If the 'j' in multijet is blue I think its non- DPF if its red it has a DPF.
You could Aldo check warning lights on starting to see if a DPF light shows if not then no DPF installed.

High oil level can cause "run on" in diesel engines.
This is where the lubricating oil is whipped up by the crankshaft and can by-pass the piston rings and basically the engine goes into self destruct by running on the lubricating oil. The engine cannot be turned off.
However, if its just 10mm above max I personally wouldn't worry, if it was 50mm above max I would reduce the oil level as a matter of urgency

A pella pump is useful for taking oil out via a dipstick or just ask a garage to do it.

It was about an inch above max which for me meant a drain and refill ASAP. Now done. I expect everyone will now say I shouldn't have used the 0w-40 Mobil 1 diesel synthetic... ;) On the DPF front I'll see in the morning if it shows any DPF light when the key is first turned.

Cheers

Jon
