Hi, I just bought my first Fiat. Always loved the styling on the 500, of the new Beetle, Mini and 500 I always thought Fiat were the only ones who got it spot on between keeping the retro look and modern comforts. The other two lost the spirit of the original.
My dad used to have a garage when I was younger and had a 126 for sale when I was learning to drive and refused to let me have it, much to my annoyance and I ended buying a Citroen 2CV which I really loved but there was something about that old Fiat that I loved and they were cheap (the original 500 was already getting sought after even then pushing prices out of reach for a 17 year old in 1990)
Anyway, I am expecting a baby, or my partner is anyway and my old Volvo was unreliable so just bought a little Fiat 500 which will save a small fortune in petrol, insurance and road tax.
The instrument cluster stopped working when I picked it up yesterday but found wiring damage in the tailgate and a blown fuse so fixed that already (the seller was going to change the clocks on Monday which obviously wouldn't have fixed it)
Looks like the Blue&Me module has failed though as once the clocks lit up the mileage is flashing and no Bluetooth. The usb port is damaged in the centre console so disconnected that and tried disconnecting the battery to see if it reset but it hasn't.
I'm planning on fitting an android head unit so I will probably just disconnect the Bluetooth module and reset it all with MEC. I already ordered the leads and downloaded the software.
Other than that I am surprised just how well the little 1.2 litre engine pulls, though I did notice the clutch started to slip when I gave it the beans up a hill last night. I have my dad's workshop though so changing the clutch isn't too bad.
All in all, I am chuffed to bits with my new motor and my partner is finding it a lot easier to get in and out of with the higher seats than the old Volvo which was very low down.
