General Sat Nav CD's?

Currently reading:
General Sat Nav CD's?

is there any change to the new maps other than updated roads and stuff?

Ok, it is now ZIPPED up as ONE file, and hosted on two servers, one slowish and one fast :yum:

It is also an .ISO file, which I ripped using www.imgburn.com - good software (y)

Just being tested now, but if any of the 'regulars' about today and on a fast home connection, PM me and I will give you log-in details :)

Oh, when you do request it, let me know your connection speed - I would rather use up my 'slower' server bandwidth, but if you are on a fast home connection, then access to the 100Mbit server should mean you get the file in a few minutes :D

If you download this latest release and burn it to a CD, can you try something for me and let me know the result ?

Namely:-

I live in a town called "Swadlincote" - can you enter that as your destination and see how you get on. With this CD and the last one I downloaded, it takes an age to advance through each letter until you get SWAD, when there's no other town and it is therefore selected as your destination.

With the original Navtec CD, this doesn't happen.

It's weird - maybe my unit, I just don't know.

Does it on the version I just DL'd too. Other place names seamed to work OK, tried it on a 2005 CD and it's fine -

Hi guys,

Sorry, I'm being an idiot... can you explain the problem to me again and I'll have a look at it tonight when I get home from work.

I'm running a copy of the original and Fenofonts has the original now, so it'll probably be worth us both trying it out. Does this happen with different destinations or just with Swadlincote? When you say ity happened with this CD and the last one you downloaded, what was the last one you downloaded? was it a 2006-2007 map disc?

I'l be honest, I don't tend to use the routing too much as I always seem to go between the same places :D

Problem is this, when searching via place name for Swadlincote, the CN+ takes and age to search for the 'W' after selecting the 'S', even longer when searching for the 'A' - at this point Swadlincote appears 2nd on the list - if you try a search then for the 'D' the system kinda grinds to a halt (I gave up waiting).

Tried other 'S' place names and the search times are nowhere near was long.

Yes, 9.8 here too.

I just wonder what's causing this to happen - as I said, it doesn't happen with my original 2005 Navtec disk. One thing I may try later, is burning the disk at 1x write speed, rather than the much faster speeds available in modern CD burners.

It did sometimes used to be the case that older CD players had problems reading CDs which were written at speeds such as 40x etc

Have had similar probs before, image was burnt at x4 speed. Doesn't seem to act up on other 'S' place names only those of 'SW' -

Sounds like a "feature" of the 2007-2008 map disk TBH. The copies were made on my Apple Powerbook which is pretty good when it comes to burning CD's, so I doubt it's that :D

I'll still check on my two copies when I get home tonight though (y)

My disk did exactly the same thing... I was wondering if it was something to do with the sheer amount of locations starting "SW" as it also offers all of the "SW" London postcodes as well as actual place names. My recommendation is to just set up your home as one of the two "hot" destinations, either Home 1 or Home 2...

Oh, I do that already - my problem is that I work in this area and need to regularly enter "Swadlincote" and therein lies the problem!

(y)(y)(y)Just tried the new disc. It works a treat! I did also try the swadlincote thing and yes it is a little slow. The main thing for me though it actualy has our address on it now and also shows a new road that has been built to the motorway that is a 1 mile shortcut to the way we used to go. Thus it no longer is telling us to make a U turn or shows us going through a field. (y)(y)(y)
