Hi, so I've got my JTD and so far (250 miles from new) I've been pootling round at 3k rpm max.

Waste of time or sensible?

Do modern engines even benefit from running in? I'm interested in what people think, or indeed what is the current thinking.

I'm just dying to squeeze out the performance but hesitant to go for it just yet.

Cheers

well when i picked up mine, the salesman said all new engines are already "bench run-in" so just drive as normal! although i was a little cautious for the first thousand. go for it put ya foot down - and you'll be surprised!!!

No need my man!

When I picked mine up I had to drive home a hundred miles from Doncaster, I asked the chap should I run it in, he said 'it's the 21st Century, engines don't need running in' so I did a ton all the way home!

...after my own heart!
just what I needed to hear.

When I got my Baleno GSR I made the informed choice to thrash the hell out of it and let the warranty pick up any pieces. I do believe that in this day and age they should be fine from the off. Cool.... playtime.

Re: No need my man!

Exactly, I agree - modern engines don't need running in like the 'bad' old days! Drive it like it has never been driven before. If you don't you will only ruin it.....

Re: No need my man!

Although other parts of the car will still be tight and breaks will need to bedded in. Most importantly is not to let the engine labour. Go enjoy.
