I purchased my Cinq Sporting on eBay sight unseen:nutter:...
Was a bit uneasy on pick up as coolant expasion tank was full as in FULL to overflowing:bang:.
Set off home 170 miles away apprehensively! Temp rose to 90 and slightly above then settled back to 90. It ran fine and never missed a beat at motorway speeds and above (was i really doing 90 officer!!!)

Would just appreciate an opinion as to whether my head is on the brink of catastrophe or i may simply have an air lock (found both air bleeds and managed to shear the one near the battery, hamfisted b*gger i am.

Car has had new heater matrix & thermostat fitted in Aug 07.

Do i simply drive on till impending doom presents itself? (boils up!)

Presuming a slight leak on head gasket will the Cat be destroyed? ( i need to get an MOT!!!!)

Grrr... only bought it to tempt the missus to drive!!!

firstly i would bleed the whole system, there is a bleeder valve at the back of the engine too, bit hard to find but you can trace it, once the whole lot has been bled, make sure you have some coolant, not just water, and make sure they water isnt thick like a babies diahroeah,

the head should be ok, just as long as there isnt any minor leaks or cracks,

let us know how you get on with the bleeeding, also check the lambda sensor, is the end has cracked this willa dd to the problem, did it with my old punto...

Is running a tad hot, but does it actually overheat?

Check that the fan comes on, might be an idea to take a hosepipe and flush everything out as best you can.

Otherwise, you'll find the second bleed screw right at the back of the engine bay near the heater (it's on one of the heater pipes).

If you want peace of mind, a compression tester will cost you about £15 from a factor or a garage will hit you for about £20 to test it.

Thanks for your responses..... feel almost hopeful! I have a neighbour runs a local garage should have the equipment to check for gas in the water indicative of a leaking gasket and he should do it 4 me at the right price. Off to breakers for the rear bleed valve in the morning! Thanks for your info!!!

Are you sure the bleed valve isn't there already?

if the rear bleed valva aint there, then every bit of coolant and water will have either blocked up or come out of the system, thus running hot and overheating

Now guys dont missunderstand...
the bleed is there....
i sheared the top off!:tosser:
But :idea: its in the process of being sorted with a short bolt/large washer to "DELICATELY" hold sealing ring in place/keep pressure!!!
