Well .. as we are still 'in lockdown'.. this thread cant be 'old'

( hope Bernievarian is still around too )

I am now seriously looking at a MODERN small car with CVT

My last CVT was a 1988 Uno Mk1 (pre FIRE )
So not too closely related to the hybrid era..

Loved the car.. But the French.built gearbox was in its infancy .. and @40k was where I noticed its operation getting a little 'flaky'.. so it was replaced with an OsloGrey panda 1000cl

Nowadays I need an auto.. supermini is fine
For stuck in traffic for an hour+ journeys

I LIKE the selespeed experience.. driven / owned several
but durability is 'ahem..patchy'

So.. the search begins

Please do keep us up to date with what you discover during your search. I really like driving automatics, although CVTs can take a bit of getting used to if you haven't driven one before? What stops me buying one is my perception that repair costs could be frightening?

Hi Mates !

NO WAY for me to get anything else than an automatic gearbox ! I had to sell my faithful Grande (manual) because of the stupid Euro norm restrictions applied in Brussels' area and am happily driving now a very sexy Scirocco with a DSG6 GB wich is really "wunderbar" ...
Hope You all Guys went fine through that crazy pandemic period...

Kind regards, Bernie

Thanks Bernie :)

I 'think' that robotised gearboxes have now been replaced with 'clever' auto's

I need to consider how long I plan to use the new purchase.. 5 years and 80k miles is likely ..my grande mj has done 3 years and 35k ( I have a twinair too)

IF I keep the car for 5 years.. then an @£8k car is just about cost effective

Currently a Clio 1.5 diesel auto looks to be the best On Fuel and Comfort.. shame its a Renault..

That description fills me with dread. There's so much there that could go wrong.
My advice would be to have a very long test drive, at all speeds, town and faster roads, and be absolutely sure it fills your needs.

High miles
5 years
Renault
Diesel
Auto

I'm going to have a lie down now. Good luck.
