Technical Roof Bars install

So when I insure my Panda do I have to state it has roof bars or is there a question asking that or does it come under modifications? I am perplexed.

you insure by registration number. Which in turn is tied to the VIN number and trim level and factory options.

If you have an accident, They will do everything reasonable to not pay out the full amount and can and do check but not every time.

depending on your insurance company as long as it declared there may not be an increase.

Buying boy racer alloy under your eBay account and posting them on Facebook is a sure fired way get caught. As is sticking go faster stripes which stand out from the crowd.

Longitudinal bars on a eco and 4x4 are fairly normal. Cross stand out like a sore thumb. Only ever seen two fitted

Its an easy fix. Phone your insurers to ask if the roof bars or rear window tints or whatever will add to the premium. If they do pay the extra but you may find it makes no difference.

Also check the insurance group for your car and for a model with OEM roof bars. Handy information to know when you ask the insurer.

well

another panda with cross bars has passed me. This time a 100 hp

Again around 40 mph. But no whistle

Wonder if they were different make bars or or the First one was incorrectly fitted ?

My mams Panda has these on, genuine Fiat ones. They were very easy to fit, sorry i can't remember exactly how but if i can do it, anyone can!

She leaves them on as she does very little mileage and isn't concerned about any extra whistling, drag, lower mpg etc which may be an issue if she drove a lot more.

Car seeing sporting its 15" steel winter wheels and tyres combo complete with a set of Citroen Xsara Picasso wheeltrims.

Not a good Fiat OEM look but got used to it now!
Did you manage to locate a roof box that would fit these? I've found htat all of the services that sell roof boxes (Halfords, Thule, Cruz and online roofbox companies) don't seem to support these cross bars. Their feedback has been that "none of the roof boxes we sell would fit the 102cm distance between the fixed points on the 2003 - 2012 Fiat Panda five door. I think the fixing points on this vehicle were really designed for the longitudinal rails to be fitted into, which is why they are so far apart."

It's hard to be sure, but this looks like it has slots that allow the U clamps distance apart to be adjusted. Perhaps worth a message to the seller.

This looks like it might be wide enough to sit directly on the OEM fixed roof bars. But it's probably an obsolete item as nobody gives any detailed info. Message the seller for measurements.

If it’s for a one off

I have seen some make roof bars out of some studded bar, nuts, washers and some aluminium box section.

Functional but not pretty
