Technical Rev counter

Just looked in the porters guid and can see the rev counter i have followed the line back and it splits to the ecu and the relay both wires are black and violet the ecu pin is number 23 if this helps anyone else!

Do the ecu pins have visable number as how am i to know which pin is which?

Hi,
There are pin numbers on the inner face of the ecu plug on my cinq, not sure about the Sei though.....

Thanks

Sorry for going on about this, i have been trying all nite and so far still not been able to get me rev counter working and no joy yet, i have found this i have tried pin 23 and still didnt work! I think it was pin 23 anyway it has a few number on so counted from them and it has a blue wire.

Can anyone help??

Hi,
I'm sure someone mentioned in another thread that the wiring for the Sei rev counter is already there, its behind the centre dash vent on a multi plug, should have 4 wires on it....earth, illumination, +12v ignition and rev signal, not sure which colour is which though, should be able to work it out with a multi meter..

Thanks
Paul T

Right its definately got to be the violet and black wire from the fuel pump relay and to run the sei rev counter connect that wire to the red wire, an illumination wire to the red and yellow, an earth to the black, and an ignition live to the blue the rev counter wont work without a live feed

By the way for my earth feed, ignition live feed and illumination feed i cut off the multiplug for the digital clock and used them wires as there in the exact place you need them and it saves running extra wires

Def no voilet and black wire in the sei mpi!!! and tried to take it off pin 23 which is for the rev counter

Hi,
Pin 23 is for rev counter on the spi ecu, not sure which pin is for rev counter on mpi engines, best to look at a haynes manual for an mpi Punto as there's no manual for the Sei, that should tell you which pin is for the rev counter on the mpi ecu...

Thanks

Hi,
Can you scan an image of the wiring for the dash and engine bay for the Punto for me to have a look see.... :) , I may be able to point out which wire to use....

Thanks

how did you manage that tried loads of different files and itdidnt work!!!

Hi,
I always load them as .jpg images (JPEG), seems to be universal picture format, the images you sent me were .bmp (Bitmap) which are normally quite large and cumbersome...

Thanks

Paul Treg,

I have a P reg cinquecento and having bought a sporting dash with rev counter, I have followed your instructions on how to fit it.

I am having a problem however, when I connect the wire to the Black/Violet on the fuel pump relay the car won't start but it will if I disconnect it. Have you any suggestions on what could be causing it or has anyone else had the same problem.

Any help appreciated.

Hi,
Are you sure you've soldered the wire on the correct terminal on the new sporting clocks and you must join to the Black/Violet wire with a scotch block or similar that allows the wire to still go to the relay.

Thanks
Paul T

I have connected it exactly as described in your instructions, if the soldered connection wasn't sound then when I connect it to the black/violet wire there would be no change as the link between the fuel pump relay and the rev counter wouldn't have been made. But with the wire connected the car won't start and when I disconnect the wire the car starts as normal (I am using the same connection methods as shown in the pictures)

I have noticed that the sporting clocks I have bought didn't have a bulb or connector for the yellow code warning light could it be that the clocks are from an early models and are somehow different the ones you have fitted?.
