Does anyone know how to remove & replace the windscreen on a Mk1 Punto? Mine's got a dirty great crack in the top corner which looks like it's growing. [xx(] But the Haynes book doesn't even mention windscreen replacement. And does anyone know how much a new 'screen would be from Fiat? Or am I better off getting one from a scrappy, or maybe having Autoglass/Auto Windscreens sort it?

If your insurance is fully comp, u can get it done by a place like auto windscreens for £50 through the insurance.
It doesnt affect your no claims either.

Yer puntopetes right,

I'm with Tesco's and I can get free repairs (if it's repairalbe) and £50 for a whole replacement, and like he said it doesn't affect your NCB :D

The winscreens are bonded in with a 1 inch thick glue bead. They are very difficult to get out and require some specialist tools to be able to do it. Go through your insurance, best leave that to the experts. :)

Also be aware that it won't affect your NCB but it MAY make you premium go up next time round.

Good old Fiat, they like to make it easy for us don't they? Looks like I'll be giving auto windscreens a ring when I'm a bit less skint then [}:)]

Ah, was so much easier back in the day, used to need a pair of spon handles and some string to do the screen on a Mini :p

Does the 50 quid thingy apply if your covered only on Third Party Fire & Theft or is that a special thing for Comprehensive insurance only?

I got the windscreen on my Uno changed cos it had a crack in it, and Puntopetes right, it is only £50.

I used auto windscreens, they came to my house and fitted it too, and they even asked if i wanted a tinted one at no extra cost! :D

Im pretty sure its only £50 if u have fully comp insurance tho Aziz

£50 most probably applies to fully comp insurance.

Yes, windscreens always used to be strung in but in an accident they tended to make like frisbys, ok if you didn't want to go 'through' the screen, and decapitate everyone in a 30metre radius. Nowadays they bond them in and they make up 30% of your cars structural integrity in a crash, and with airbags and seat belts your less likely to go through the screen.
