Folks, if any of you have done this, what tools are needed to get the calipers and discs off and does anyoe have any pics

1. Loosen L or R Wheel Nuts a turn or so.

2. Jack front (L or R) on Subframe and put an Axle Stand under there as well.

3. Remove Wheel.

4. Undo the two Caliper mounting Bolts (19mm Hex), pull the Caliper off the Disc and hang it out of the way with a piece of Wire/String.
You may need to push the Pads back a little if your Disc is worn a bit, as it will have a lip on the outer edge, just use a large flat-blade Screwdriver to lever them away from the Disc.
You don't need to worry about damaging either the Disc or the Pads of course, as you're replacing both.
Make a note of how all the parts (Springs, Stainless Rub-Plates, rubber Boots etc) fit on the Calipers, I find taking a few Digital pictures helps the first couple of times you do something like this.

5. Unscrew and remove the two pointed locating dowels (12 or 13mm Hex I think), they also secure the Disc to the Hub.

6. Pull the Disc off the Hub, it may be reluctant to move, tap it with a Hammer/Mallet if it is.

7. Clean the Hub, Caliper (and all it's parts) thoroughly, reassemble, and fit the shiny new Disc and Pads.

I'd also flush through some fresh Brake Fluid when you bleed the Calipers.

I think that covers it.
If I've made any glaring mistakes/omissions (I've been awake for 27 hours straight!), I'm sure someone will point them out.

I'll try and find some pics too.

I had my front calipers rebuilt by Bigg Red and can highly recommend them. The only note of caution is that their 'standard' gold or silver finish isn't very corrosion resistant.

For the discs and pads, I've only got good things to say about the Pagid ones I put on mine. Prior to that I had fitted a cheap set from ziggya2z on ebay. The Pagid kit is in a different league, both in terms of quality of manufacture and performance on the road. They are very progressive and feel like a much more expensive set-up than I paid.

Thanks for the replies, I'm not really looking to get a re-build of the calipers, more a case of doing the job myself when it needs doing and save some money. Although I'm quite attached to the old bucket, with 152k on it I'm not certain it warrants that level of TLC ;)

I know that Multis can sometimes throw up a mechanical surprise fo fairly straightforward jobs so I thought I'd check! Good info re the Pagid gear though, I did find some very well priced Bosch disc sets on Mr Auto, I'm sure I can't go wroth Bosch?

P.S. WMF, where did you source your Pagid stuff?
