Hi,

Planning to replace a tyre valve stem on a Punto mk2b with standard 14inch steel wheels due to poor seal and slow leak.

Just have a few questions

1. Would I need to "re-seal" the tyre to the steel rim? If so what sealant should be used?
Something like this I'm assuming: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Schrader-Tyre-Bead-And-Repair-Sealer-Seal-Leaks-Between-Tyre-And-Rim-945ml-Tin-/161881982516

2. Is there a specific size valve stem for the punto 14inch steel rim? i.e. TR-414?

3. Good methods for removing the old valve stem?

No specialist tools, so any tips appreciated.

Thanks.

Obviously you will separate the tyre from rim near valve, once you've done that cut old valve off from inside, or try a flat blade screw driver by hooking the valve from inside. Fitting new valve, smear with washing up liquid & push the valve through from inside out.

Any tyre shop will give you a valve, in fact I'd be inclined to get them to do the deed, certainly wouldn't cost much & far less hassle...:)

I spoke to halfrauds on 2 occasions and just tried to book the job with them, the first time they told me it would be £8, then the second time they said it would be £25 and they would need to "puncture the tire" to replace the old valve stem.

Go to your local tyre place they would be able to do it for £5 or so happily avoid all the big chain's
Especially if they say you need to puncture a tyre to fit a new valve to the wheel

Exactly, never mind the bigger chains as said. Never heard such nonsense of puncturing a tyre. I would have laughed in their face & told them to seek other employment as they are crap at communicating with a potential customer & I'm not kidding:devil:
