just had the preheat fault appear on my car after the checks went off and glowplug lights went out, i suspect one of the glowplugs are shot as the car is 10miles short of 90k now,
anyway i found a set of 4 for £20.45 + postage on ebay

im just wondering if anyone has used these, i only intend to replace the one thats failed atm (i will test them in the morning), but they seem very cheap, infact i would expect to pay that price for SPARK PLUGS lol.

also out if intrest, do the plugs actually heat the fuel all the time now not only just when the car starts?
cheers guys

The glowplug relay switches off the glowplugs after the engine is running (or, in older cars, at the same time the "wait to start" light goes out). In some newer cars, glow plugs continue to operate for up to 180 seconds after engine start to keep the engine within emissions regulations, as combustion efficiency is greatly reduced when the engine is very cold.

Well these modern diesels dont really need glow plugs to a degree, i get in mine in the morning key in twist and start.
Dont know why yours have started to fail at 90,000 mine were still perfect at 130,000 before i broke the last engine.

thanks guys, i take it no one has tryed these plugs then before?

my plug failed because of legoland windsor. we were there on sat, when the fireworks ended it took us 3 blooming hours just to escape the park. 45 mins of that we didnt move out of the parking space, so the car was on moove a foot, off on thought we would move, off on move another 20cm then off for 3 hrs before we finally started moving, by that point this fault had appeared.
ps we wont ever do legoland fireworks again, the management of the park traffic flow would be better organised by a group of toddlers.

Mmmm Muppet1, did you realise that as soon as you 'plip' your key, the glow plugs are working? This is in order to give you the 'just turn the key and she starts' effect with modern diesels. Also, the reason why you shouldn't even attempt to open the doors if you discover you've put petrol in by mistake! (er....as far as I know)
