General Replacement Door Handle Cost

Hi,

My daughter passed her test this year and is so proud of her first car.
Today she took her car into the local garage as the passenger side door handle has become detached from the door and it needs to be opened with both hands to prevent it coming off totally.

They've told her it needs a complete new handle and that it will need to be ordered and that the total fitted price would be £272.52.

Seems expensive but is that a fair market price?

Appreciate she could buy a cheap one of Amazon or breakers yard but she hasn't the time nor knowledge to do the work herself.

If the handle is still "attached " at the rear end then a £10 new hinge from Ebay will sort it as long as you can diy it, it's not hard at all take you about 2 hours at most to replace a full new handle is about £15-20, so the rest is labour? 2 hours at £80 plus vat?

Get a genuine used spare from someone like club 500 italia on e-bay and watch you-tubes love 500 Chanel to see how to do it! if you can wire a plug or change a light bulb you can do this! and save yourselves hundreds of pounds!

I'd say close on £300 to replace a door handle hinge is well over the top.

As others have said, it's a £10 part and it's a straightforward job.

The hinge much less
Wouldn't expect to pay that much at a main dealer
