U having roof sprayed or vinyl? If the latter how did u resolve the aerial issue? :)
Look forward to seeing it

Didn't get done. He was a little late getting to it and may have rushed it so we said do it another time. In the meantime my car is at Griffin Mill having the stop/start issue looking at. I've got a Qubo multijet, and I like it :)

.....not more than the 4x4 surely?!?

No, I wouldn't swap it.
The multijet motor is good, and damn economical. 62mpg today which I reckon would have been around 46 in my car. Don't know what power it is?
It did feel a little slow though.
Another thing, the speedo is bang on. 50mph indicated is 50mph satnav.

It was vinyl btw I was having on the roof.

Good. Look forward to seeing it. What about the aerial? :)

Don't know on the aerial. I would have though that there will be a straight cut from the aerial to the tailgate so he can get over it.
I'll be happy enough with that as I think the potential to damage something lowering the headlining is the worse of the 2 options.

Monday now is the date.

My mirror caps are being painted tomorrow which btw, I'm having 2 sets painted as it is not a lot more than 1 set. Anybody want a pair?

Yes that's what my people said. If the aerial not removed there will be a short cut line from aerial to tailgate. I must say I admire the way they do this as I get air bubbles putting a tiny screen protector on my mobile! Lol
Is painting a viable alternative to vinyl?

Painting would be good. I was in 2 minds whether to paint or vinyl.
The guy I use for paint is flaming good and cheap, not a combination you usually find.
I thought though that vinyl can come off easily if it needs to.

If Monday gets cancelled again, I may just get it painted?

Did u get the vinyl wrap done? :)

Going in for painting on Friday.
I couldn't make the car available yesterday for the vehicle graphic guy so I thought stuff it, the painter is a walk from my house so it's easy for me.
It's nigh on the same price too. I'm removing the roof rails and the Bodyshop are taking care of the headlining to remove the antenna base.

Goes in Friday morn and collect end of the day. He has my mirror caps done too.

Great! Look forward to seeing it. My only worry about paint is its permanency if I change my mind later. Haha
I wonder if its really necessary to remove the roof bars as the new colour is only on the part of the room between the bars? Are you getting the top section if the hatch done too?

So I took the roof rails off today in preparation for painting. I think they will get a better finish with them out of the way. I am getting the top of the hatch painted too in answer to your question triumph7

It was a simple job to remove the bars and I'm sure anyone would manage without this, but I took pics in case anyone did want to see what's what?

First remove the end caps of the bars, fore and aft. They just pull up and off.
This is the front one. Be aware that the forward part is stuck with double sided tape so be careful you don't snap it.

This is the back one with the covers removed.

The front part of the bar here with the cover removed. I've already undone the Allen bolt here any you can see it.

Next remove the 2 little caps on the top of each bar. A small flat blade screw driver takes car of it. Take car not to scratch the aluminium bar.

There are some more 5mm Allen bolts buried in there. You'll need a longer Allen key for these. My socket set one wouldn't fit.

Once these are out the bars just lift clear.
You are left with these welded on brackets

And this is how the car looks without the bars for The Pretender

When I put the bars back on I will be applying liquid threadlock to keep them in place.

Liquid threadlock? Can the bolt just be put back in? I guess it will be better job with bars off.
Double sided tape - doesn't sound very permanent! U replacing that too? :)

Here it is.

I've only just put on the orange mirrors and it's a bit dark for pics.

Looks great! Really smart. Sorry to be a pain in the ass but can you post a pic of the back/hatch :) ta
Want to get mine done now. Oh, do u think it could have been painted without removing the bars and headlining/aerial?

I'll take some pics of the hatch tomorrow

You could paint the roof without removing any of that stuff, but IMO it would not be a good job. The roof bars really are a 15 min job to remove, the rear high brake light comes out in minutes too with no tools really. You don't need to drop the whole headlining to get the antenna off.

It's a false economy I reckon leaving the stuff on.
