My locking nut remover decided to sheer off its internal bits today while trying to remove one of the locking nuts. This has left me in a problematic position. I now have one corner of my car spacers and the others not which is going to make it crap to drive. So does anyone know the best way of getting the locking nuts off my car?

Im thinking im gonna have to pop down to halfrauds to buy this:
http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/...151_storeId_10001_partNumber_696823_langId_-1
but i dont know if its any good or if it will work. Any other suggestions are much appreciated ta.

I feel for you mate. Sound's like it is going to be a total b*tch.

All I can think of is what I did to get an engine mount bolt out once. But it means ur going to bugger the locking nuts.

You can get reverse thread self tapping bolts specifically for this task. You basically drill a small hole in the centre of the bolt. Screw the reverse thread bolt in, then use a normal socket on this bolt to turn the locking nut out.

Hope that makes sense mate. Good luck

Im not drilling it out i always **** stuff up when i try and drill it out, im gonna have to pop over to fiat and get them to remove the nuts for me so i can get the otherside on then they can order a new remover key.

Its about £13 for the replacement locking nut remover fiat have said. Just gotta see if they can take the other nut off for me so i can put my 2nd spacer on so i wont be running 20mm wider on one side lol

Haha, yeh that would make the car a bit wierd to handle!

£13 is a p*ss in the ocean really....just a pain that ur gunna have to wait for it to come through.

AKA a Stud extractor

Matt i know how you feel i had a real job getting the alloy off my old mans focus last week as the Absolute Monkeys at the accident repair center must have used their ape like strength when putting the wheel back on after they had reconditioned it....

took me over 20 mins with a combination of a windy gun breaker bar and plus gas to get the nuts undone

yet the other side which they hadn't had off undid with a normal bar

and they hadn't greased the hub so it had cold welded to the hub :bang:

managed not to brake the locking nut key however although i thaught i might and had the key number ready to order a new one.

i went down to fiat earlier and they said they had never ordered one before so hes gonna ring up fiat UK to find out how:rolleyes: Hopefully wont be too long as i dont like running a 20mm spacers on one side.

If you're a member of the AA, call them. They carry several different tools for removing locking wheel nuts with missing/broken keys. You would need to make it a breakdown situation though (flat tyre maybe). They won't come out for self inflicted faults or just because you want to fit spacers.

Dave.

Theres only 2 dealers near me though and 1 i refuse to go to because they are the most incompetant people i have ever known. I cant see them having a master set and i really dont want to talk to them again lol. Fiat garage i went to today said they dont keep a master set so just gotta wait.

I had a full set removed on a ford focus i had, he basically used a cross wheel nut wrench (whatever its called) and a mallet. All he did was line the wrench up on the lock nut, **** it with the mallet a few times so it was effectively stuck on the nut and un-do them. Its pretty easy, took 5 mins to do all 4 wheels!

this is why fiat now fit the new type, because all the wheel thieves also know that trick
