Re: Why has nobody attempted to change glowplugs??

T, I stand corrected!

no not at all, it can be done (I often use a 1/4" drive with long carefully postioned 'wobble' extensions) but having purpose tool does make it a lot easier.

I've yet to have a glow plug break on me yet but i'll remain quiet as dont want to jinx myself:eek:

Like the above, I've changed all 4 using 1/4" with a wobble extension without any problems. Is a bit fiddly but no worse than any previous cars I've owned.

Re: Why has nobody attempted to change glowplugs??

My pre heat fault light has been coming on for about a month now first intermittently then every time I started.
The other day I took the battery cover off removed the fuses and re seated them, no more pre heat light I guess I must have had a bad connection on the fuse board.
Worth a go costs nothing.
Very good point (y)

I think this is more common than many people realize.

Just imagine taking the effort to change the whole set and then find you've still got the same problem :bang: :bang:

This is one of the key reasons I advocate checking which one is duff.

Re: Why has nobody attempted to change glowplugs??

Just an update, we have changed all four of the glowplugs and the pre-heat fault is gone :) TBH I cant see what all the fuss is about, it was relatively to do and saved the cost of taking it anywhere.

I keep getting 'Preheat fault'for several months now. I took the car to the FIAT garage, but they couldn't replace glow plug. They said it's stuck and can not be fixed without removing enhine head, that it happens sometimes and I should live with it.
It's not that I have any problems with starting the engine. I just don't like seeing this error, and I am sure potential buyers will not like it when I decide to sell my Stilo.
What should I do to fix this problem?

Looks like you have 2 choices YUGO23
1 let the garage take the head off or go elswhere and let them have a go at it.
2 do it yourself and hope it comes out.

Must admit I recently changed glow plug number 3 which had been in for 98,000 miles and found it came out really easily. I'd definitely take it to another garage as they are a real pain to get out, the garage might have not been bothered about trying to do the job due to the effort required.
