I have a 500 Turbo. I'd like to disconnect the gear cables from the top of the gear box. I've already popped of the ends connected to the gear box but I can't figure out how to release the cables from the top of the gear box (photo of the part attached) Do you twist these somehow, if so how or is there some other trick?

Depends on what you are trying to do.

North American car might be different and the year?

Look at the replacement parts. I'd suspect they just lift/lever up. Some have metal rather than plastic retainers.
I don't have replacement cables. The reason I want the cables out of the way is not to replace them. I want to move them so I can get at the three bolts that hold the plate down the cross shaft lever goes through. My cross shaft is so badly seized I'll have to remove the plate to properly get at the cross shaft lever.

Ok. So you don't want to damage them.

Never done this, so bucket of salt (safer than a pinch).

The lack of reference in guides suggests just lever up with plastic wedge. No reference to adjusting and basically holds the cable in place.

No harm in a gentle poke.

Post update on year and model of your car. Try locating a replacement and question seller on fitting?

Sorry not much help.
