Technical Gear knob adhesive?

I've removed the gear knob (to replace the centre console and gear shift gaiter). What has anyone used to successfully glue back on the plastic gear knob cover? I think Fiat has used Tiger Seal - wondered if there's any cheaper options - otherwise the cost of the glue will be more than the gaiter!

Id just hold it in place with something like blue-tack then its easy if it has to come off again in the future!

I just used the same silicone sealer that I use for water pumps when doing cambelts. Strong enough to hold the cap but can be levered off at a later date if necessary. Pretty much any silicone would do.

Funny you should say that. OH suggested this too. I’ve bought some mounting foam tape and was going to use that, but think I’ll go for the blu tack until I’m sure it’s all on right and doesn’t pop the cable ties etc.

You mean - the sort you seal bathrooms with?

Yup. Strong enough to hold it but can be removed if needed. Just do the job in the evening so it has all night to cure.
