Re: Flashing indicators when locking/unlocking?
So are thinking of putting it all back and getting the job done properly

I was only being half serious when suggesting there might be another way of doing it (apart from using Examiner) but it's always interesting to know someone has actually tried with some success. The answer is always to take it a Fiat garage and get them to do it using the Examiner system. The setting seems to be in the setup for the alarm system, even if your car does not have an alarm fitted.
If you are good with electrickery, you could do what I have done...
The fuel filler flap is locked/unlocked with the doors, so I added a relay in parallel with the solenoid that locks the flap. One contact of this relay is connected to a rear indicator bulb and the other is connected to a normally closed contact on a second relay. The common contact of the second relay is connected to a permanent live feed. The coil of the second relay has connection to earth and an ignition feed.
The effect is that when the doors/flap are locked or unlocked the indicator flashes (but it doesn't flash when the doors lock automatically). This is not as fiddly as it sounds but you need to know what you are doing to achieve it. Next move is feed the other rear indicator through a diode.
Due to the CAN-bus wiring the front and rear indicators are separate circuits so getting all four to flash would mean running diode fed wiring to the front - at that point, the Examiner route becomes attractive !!
Please do not ask me for a wiring diagram - if you cannot make sense of the above, I recommend that you do not try it.
