Re: Flashing indicators when locking/unlocking?

The answer is always to take it a Fiat garage and get them to do it using the Examiner system. The setting seems to be in the setup for the alarm system, even if your car does not have an alarm fitted.
If you are good with electrickery, you could do what I have done...
The fuel filler flap is locked/unlocked with the doors, so I added a relay in parallel with the solenoid that locks the flap. One contact of this relay is connected to a rear indicator bulb and the other is connected to a normally closed contact on a second relay. The common contact of the second relay is connected to a permanent live feed. The coil of the second relay has connection to earth and an ignition feed.
The effect is that when the doors/flap are locked or unlocked the indicator flashes (but it doesn't flash when the doors lock automatically). This is not as fiddly as it sounds but you need to know what you are doing to achieve it. Next move is feed the other rear indicator through a diode.
Due to the CAN-bus wiring the front and rear indicators are separate circuits so getting all four to flash would mean running diode fed wiring to the front - at that point, the Examiner route becomes attractive !!
Please do not ask me for a wiring diagram - if you cannot make sense of the above, I recommend that you do not try it.
I was only being half serious when suggesting there might be another way of doing it (apart from using Examiner) but it's always interesting to know someone has actually tried with some success.

So are thinking of putting it all back and getting the job done properly :) ;)

Re: Flashing indicators when locking/unlocking?

I was pointing out this is incorrect.

You could of course do all the wiring at the body computer using the lock/unlock command to trigger the 2 relays....connected in turn to the 4 indicator outputs from body computer thus keeping all wiring confined into the one area.

That makes sense - good point.

I'm going to go to my local dealer and get this activated as its quite annoying when you don't know if its worked or not.

Didnt worry me when I had mine I just gave the handle a yank to make sure it was locked..;) :p

Well exactly, i'm thinking about replacing the battery and going for the distance record... but i cant tell without the flashes!! :D

I phoned fiat earlier but it just rang and rang.... so clearly they on holiday already!! :D

Too right (y)

Drive me around the twist if mine didn't flash

Only a few moments ago I locked mine from within the Post Office

Mine was dire to say the least..had to get within 10ft of mine before it opened the car..was worse after I dropped the plip as well..:bang: zero zilch nada..time to use the key in the door..:p oh well

I found this a while ago, could one of these modes be for flashing indicators?

I've never tried it because mine already flash.

Anyone know what the different modes do?

Factory Fitted Alarm Settings

During the end of line PROXI the COUNTRY MODE of the alarm is memorized (default: EEC) and can be altered by the service network using the following procedure:
  1. Turn the Ignition ON.
  2. Turn the Hazard Warning Lights ON.
  3. Press and HOLD the Rear Fog Light button.
  4. Using the Ignition Key, carry out the following sequence in strict order: key off (< 2 s), key on (< 1s), key off, starting from the key on state and keeping the Rear Fog Lamp button pressed.
  5. At the end of the sequence the siren will beep 5 times to confirm that the programming has been activated.
  6. Release the Rear Fog Lamp button and press it again the same number of times as the desired mode (if the button is pressed for an invalid number of times, the siren will beep 5 times and the procedure will be cancelled).
  7. Turn the Ignition ON within 10 seconds of pressing the rear fog lamp switch for the last time.
  8. The siren will beep the same number of times as the operating mode selected.
  9. At the end of the beeps, turn the Ignition OFF. The Body Computer is now programmed for the new operating mode.
Operating Modes are as follows:
  • MODE 1: Default Mode (EEC)
  • MODE 2: GB
  • MODE 3: Belgium
  • MODE 4: Holland
  • MODE 5: World
  • MODE 6: Temporary Market
  • MODE 7: "Range"

Reminds me of those overly elaborate cheat codes I used to use for my Sega Megadrive :ROFLMAO:

Still though, might try it all the same. As Top Gear say, "How hard can it be?" :D

Re: Flashing indicators when locking/unlocking?

it's a fiat.

Get the sequence wrong, or press a certain once to many inputing the code, next thing you know you have discovered the secret Italian master technicians code to activate all airbags at once BANG! ;)

You've got a factory alarm have you ?

....because I'm not sure what you expect to achieve if you haven't

Guess I was being slightly sarcastic. I figured given the sometimes brilliant electrics, I might be able to get it to work somehow without the factory alarm. Just trying to save money and avoid the dealers :p

Though if the button sequences aren't correct or meant for the car, could do more harm than good. End up getting the Fiat equivalent of a blue screen of death or something :ROFLMAO:

The sequence is for the Stilo but, as the title and Argo suggest, it's for the Factory Fitted Alarm. It's just another "easter egg" along with the CN+ and climate control hidden menus. I bet there's even one there somewhere to turn the service light off but that's another story.

I tried it on mine earlier and set it to MODE 1: Default Mode (EEC). I got the 5 confirmation beeps and the 1 beep for the new MODE. I didn't notice any difference and set it back to MODE 2: GB. (I assume that's what it was before)

Maybe I'll try them all tomorrow to see what, if any, the differences are. I suspect it may be for different country's legal requirements regarding how long the siren sounds after it's been triggered.

Can any Fiat Techs confirm this or know what the different modes are?

Dave.

Funny enough Dave, I tried out that sequence when I attempted to fit the factory fit alarm to my Stilo. I discovered it's effectively impossible to do that since you'd need to replace the Body Computer. (that was the only thing I didn't replace). You can replace the BC but ONLY with one that's identical to the first which would be pointless :bang:

I got no response so can only assume it's the BC you'd be trying to talk to.

It's a lot lot easier to take it in to your dealer :)

any updates to this thread? i have a factor fitted remote locking, and my indicators dont flash, might have to try this one! until i can get it priced up at the garage (need the car code too)
