Remind me why to avoid a 1.4 Brava.....

Hi all
I've been away from the site after selling my Brava a while back but am now looking to get one again as I like them so much!!!
It was a 1600 16v which we all know suffers from the injector failure problem,but was wondering about the 1.4
Seem to remember reading about avoiding this model as there are known mechanical issues and also fuel consumption is high.
Is this still the feeling amongst you and can anyone offer any advice on buying a second hand Brava please.....

Well my Bravo 1.4 has fairly high fuel consumption but I wouldn't say it was any less mechanically sound than the rest of the Bravo range.

I'm coming up to 100k miles and all thats needed changing is tyres, shocker, clutch, brakes and a backbox. All wear items.

After reading other posts I would hazard a guess that mine is one of the most reliable for the mileage. Everyone has MAF sensor problems or cambelt problems etc etc.

I would say the 1.4 is fine if you can live with the high fuel consumption and slight slowness . But if you can afford a different engine then go for it.

so long as its regularly oil changed. the only real failing is with bosch. their oil spray bar blocks too easily if your oil is on the dark side, causing camshaft wear. i know of a few with over 100k on them with no bother. my cousins 1.4 brava is probably the most reliable car i've ever known anyone to have. NOTHING (touch wood) has gone wrong apart from obvious things like buls, brake pads, tyres, and this year the exhaust. considering she bought it brand new on a P plate in 1996, thats pretty darn good going.

so really just the fuel consumption, which is on a par with the bravo 1.8
