"As I’ve always understood things, there is only one way to drive a small Fiat – and that is without mercy. Here’s how to do it. Select first, lift the clutch abruptly, mash the throttle pedal to the floor and when, and only when, the valve gear bursts through the bonnet, select second. Repeat the process until all the gears are used up" James May

Ssssssh, you'll only encourage Ahmett ;).

agree that is quite low change revs.

i have a 1.7 diesel and i change at around 3000 - 3500

so for a small petrol you do have to rev the ******** of them for them to go anywhwere. especially if its the vauxhall 1.2 engine haha

Do you mean the FIAT engine used by the newer shape Corsas? If so its the same engine as the 1.2 in the 500/GP/EVO/Panda/Etc

Yes the new shape corsa. Didnt realise they were same engine. I had one as a loan car from vauxhall. It was the special eddition on with sport seats. At the time i had the 1.3 cdti corsa new shape. My corsa was 10 times quicker than the petrol at getting to 60. I. The petrol i had to red line al the time otherwise i would get over taken by nissan micras(and thats never good haha)

Had to do a 'double take' on who wrote that - Captain Slow !

Sorry to go slightly off topic, but I'm pretty sure the 1.2 used in the Corsa isn't Fiat built.

See the tech specs, all of the 1.2 versions are all 16v engines:

I have driven a couple of 1.2 Corsas as hire cars, and I have to say they are nothing like the 1.2 in the 500 or Panda to be honest - they are much less responsive IMO.

The 1.3 diesel used in the Corsa is Fiat-built though!(y)

Yeah, I had a 1.2 Corsa as a hire car the other week - dog slow up a motorway hill, worse than the 1.2 500 I test drove. I had a 1.4 Corsa a couple of weeks later - much better performance, slightly better economy, but still seemed a bit flat compared with my TA 500.
Incidentally, I leave my A/C on all the time, which is better for it. Can't detect any difference in performance or economy if I turn it off.

My sister has a 1.0 Corsa, ridiculously slow for a car that weighs that much. I understand completely what you mean by 'flat' compared to Fiat engines, my Grande Punto 1.4 even though not quick is so much more responsive, I mean even for a 1 litre the Corsa, even when revved like crazy seems not to shift much.

I must say that I've only had my 1.2 for a week and a half. It's done about 3.5K and still feels sluggish, even when compared to my other big heavy gas guzzling 4x4. I'm hoping that a few more miles and it will loosen up. Several posts seem to indicate this will be around 8K.
However, I too have been used to diesels over the last 8 years or so and this is the first small petrol engined car that I've bought. Perhaps I need to rev it more and drive it harder.....look out my poor little Luigi :) :)

Hi there, I'm a noobie but we have three 1.2's at work and they fly, and by that I mean straight up to 80 no problem, and then more, which is what prompted me to get a TA which is even more fun.
I would go to your garage and get them to check it, also do what was suggested and try another 1.2 for comparison.
