Finding that used Puntos are a grand cheaper than used Pandas in many instances. Is there a measurable reason for this? Were better components used in the Panda? Or is it the marginally lower insurance group which makes people think it's worth more?

Pandas are mostly built out of Punto parts, but the cars are lighter so get less stressed. The Panda is also cheaper to insure and in the main not owned by chavs, this makes it a more attractive used buy.

I don't know if it is true but I would suspect the Panda might have better build quality is not built in Turin. My dad a MK1 Punto and the build was not as good as the Panda but there are 8 years between the two cars so that is a tad unfair.

Exactly, but (and I'm presuming the OP is talking about Grande here) Puntos are Vauxhall ... pretty much ;)

It's just one of those mysteries I think - a well built, cheap to run car. Back in the 1980s we used to be able to pick up the old Panda model for nothing when it was 3/4 years old.

Bit frustrating if you want to buy one......specially as the 2012 Mk4 models are advertised at similar money to the 2010-2011 Mk3 model.

Great if you paid £6k for a brand new one, and four years down the line it is still worth half that, in two years time I reckon my car would still fetch £2k which means it will have lost £750 a year which is very good.

The interior build quality of the Panda is far superior to that of the Punto Evo. The plastics in the Panda are solid and so is every switch. The clam shell air vents are also totally solid. I never had a problem with my old Pandas interior and im sure every mark 3's interior (apart from the HP's gear knob and gaiter and drivers seat) will last for many years. The Puntos plastics are very thin and cheap. Just try the tiny electric window switches on a Punto Evo,they wont last long.

Oh and firstly my Punto looks amazeballs and secondly im not a chav.:p

Alas, ;), but beauty is in the eye of the beholder.... and a Chav never admits his affliction.. :D :p

I have trashed my interior but I use it to carry heavy computers and when I am not doing that for stuff like carrying plasterboard or cement (DIY projects).

The dashboard though is extremely solid looks a bit cheap but is actually very durable. I had a coke bottle explode in the back of my car, went all the over the doors and everything, because they are just made of ABS plastic it all wiped clean without any issue.

Try doing that in a modern Focus!.

If you had bought it at 1 or 2 years old, then you would have lost less - which is very much 'gooder' (y)

Losing money is something I would not normally describe as good.... or indeed partake of often

Also, if you bought on credit, you will have lost a hell of a lot more.. :) - always pay cash.. much better..

I've had a Punto as a company car and own a Panda, both are about the same age, mileage and of equivalent trim level and I much prefer the Panda. It's just a much nicer driving experience.

I have to disagree with the air vents comment. I've got 3 broken ones on my Panda! Later Panda's are a bit better in terms of the looks of the interior, but I much prefer the look of the Punto Evo interior personally :)

My 4x4 has 3 broken vents, slightly torn gaiter, the steering wheel has started to separate from the metal inside and the drivers seat has a tear. Other than that the interior is OK though :)

A spirited driver are you? I've got visions of your fingers digging into the steering wheel as you snatch at the gearstick and slap the air vents :p

Not my fault, was like that when i got it.

Whilst the Panda feels ok inside, our 500 feels even more solid and has nicer materials :)

That's what I tell everyone who comments on all the scratches on my Panda, I swear I mostly wasn't responsible for some of them.

Well I dont know how your vents got broken they seemed very strong to me. I always treat my cars with kid gloves anyway but the vents were solid on my old HP. In terms of design the Punto Evo wins hands down, its a much posher place to be. The Panda is more utilitarian but thats a good thing, its what the Panda has always been about.
