Hi, the other day I started my 2009 1.3 4x4 and it started working rough after a few seconds, I was already on the road and drove the 500m or so I had to, in first gear, barely. It was noisy and slow. Stopped, tried turning it on after a couple of minutes, it cranks, but no start.

Checked all fuses and relays. Priming pump works. Key code seems fine. Inertia switch seems fine.

One heater is high resistance, three are fine and they get 12V.

Any ideas?

Something lost in translation

Title will not turn over

Description cranks fine

None start but cranks, you need to read the codes, measure the fuel pressure and so on

Does the rev counter move while cranking

Try with the MAF sensor disconnected also

Look for fuel leaks around the high pressure pump and injectors

Sorry, what I meant was the starter turns the motor happily but it doesn't start. I'm guessing no fuel? Rev counter works.

Only error code I got was glow plug related, one of them doesn't work. Using AlfaOBD with an ELM327 bt adapter.

Even if the plug is dead, it shouldn't prevent the motor from starting in 20+ C temps?

What I have from the log is:
target diesel pressure 396
diesel pressure 114-118.
(This is during the 5-6 seconds of the starter cranking)

I did not notice that while watching live gauges! I'm guessing the numbers aren't good? :)

Check the rpm as well

From memory it should be 200 rpm and 300 bar

Let me double check

It is around 200rpm, 206-216! The starter sounds healthy (not sluggish when turning the motor). The battery is at 12.6 unloaded and doesn't sag much under load.

Yes 300 bar at 200 rpm

That is with the injectors disabled, I doubt you are loosing 200 bar through the injectors

We know is low fuel pressure

We don't know if it's the high pressure pump (HP)

Lift pump

Pressure regulator

Blocked fuel filter

Leaking or sucking in air

Fuel temperature, reading too.high, dumping fuel back to the tank, I'd expect an error code

Visual inspection first,.see if there's any obvious weeping of diesel

Uhhh... I found the fault. It's full of petrol. Stupid me.
I wish I'd though of that earlier before i tried to start it another 10 times.

Anything to do at home or just take it to the garage?

as per @varesecrazy

Just disconnect the fuel line and keep switching the ignition on

There's no drain in the tank

Drain the fuel filter and fill with diesel

And pray

Petrol in a diesel injector and or fuel pump can damage them, odds are you will get away with it, fingers crossed

Switch the ignition on and off a few times before cranking

Pandolina is back on the road! :)
Pumped out petrol until the fuel gauge was all the way down, threw 15L of diesel in there, disconnected the return hose from the fuel rail (at least I believe that's what I disconnected - I tried to flush everything out at the furthest end I was capable of finding), ran the pump until what came out smelled more of diesel than petrol, took some 30 secs of cranking total to start up, voilà! 🍻

Just revving it in neutral, seems to me there's less black smoke from the exhaust than before 🤷‍♂️
