Technical Quick q - caliper bleed nipple size?

Not off the top of my head, but I would place some (not much mind) money on it being way smaller than M8.

Are you asking about the thread, or the size of the hex shank? The hex shank is non metric IIRC.

Hmm, ok thanks.

I mean the actual size of the thread as my bleed nipple has snapped inside and I'm gonna try and extract it and then screw in a new nipple, so I needed to know the size.

ebay and Google seem to bring m8 sized bleed screws up?

Thanks

The head is an 8mm normally :)

If you do find out the correct size - please let me know

As regardless - i wanna change mine when i do my brake fluid change :)

ziggy

Ye head is an 8mm, just not sure whether to choose from the shorter or longer (length) screw, not 100% sure if it makes a difference?

Yes I will let you know :)

Can't remember what calipers Mk2s use. 55/60/Sei/Cinq front bleed nipples are M8 x 1.25 (I just measured) and 8mm a/f.

Hel do nice replacements in stainless.

Ye that's the size bleed nipples that are showing up for a 16v punto -- they seem to suggest that the bleed nipples are same on many fiat's (punto, cinq, etc)

Thanks

if bleed screws havent been disturbed in years what ido
is put a small drop of brake fluid around it and leave it 20 mins,

it seems to help to ease them out, not sure why tho,
you has to be careful tho, any spills have to be washed off quick,

Huh :what: I'm asking in advance so I can order the right part, haven't had a chance to extract the sheared bleed nipple yet so I can't tell the thread size or length?

The chap is talking good sense here mate,

'seriously pick another caliper up,

you can get them out but there is 0% room for mistakes,

better safe than sorry,

pick one up and then play with the old one

The one the other side will be the same! :bang:

Actually extracting them can be very difficult -- there's a lot of thread to rust in place, and then there's the seal at the bottom (if you really mess that up, it'll never seal again).

Were it an aluminium, magnesium or composite caliper made by AP, Brembo, Wildwood, etc. I'd bust a gut trying to sort it.

But it's just a run of the mill part churned out by the thousand by some poor gastarbeiter.

Fair point, just when I seen the price of a new caliper on web (around £90), I thought it would be worth a go with a £2 bleed nipple.

Anyway, I will order another caliper (second hand or go scrappy (£25 in scrappy)) to be used and try a new bleed screw on this current caliper for experiments sake
