ok i need help. i have a bravo 1.8

i have replaced the standard door speakers with some 13cm infinitys and put some pioneer 6x9 speakers on my parcel shelf.
i haven't replaced my head unit so i'm still using the standard one but as it doesnt have much power output my new speakers aren't being used to their full potential and when turned up to loud the rear speakers cut out.
Now can i just replace the head unit or do i have to buy amps and things to stop all this cutting out business?

and if i do have to buy things what would you suggest coz knowing me i'll just end up buying the prettiest stereo and it will end up being rubbish.

thanks for any help

no peticular make i prefer but thought it was best to try and stick to the same make but seeing as i have different speakers i guess it dont matter but i dont want to spend more than about £200 if possible

My advice (for what it's worth).. £200 is enough to get a decent head unit, it's well worth looking for as many features that you can get for that price... I'd look for ones with an AUX channel, RCA Out (to go to amp etc...) and one with a CD changer facility, even if you don't want this now, you may decide that in the future you do... all of the above is pretty much standard on many head units, so you'll have a wide range of choice.

Also IMO brands to consider are Pioneer, Kenwood. And brands to ignore are SONY, and JVC. There are loads of links on this site for websites selling this stuff. Remember to get a fitting kit as well, you'll probably need one, and also check for any brand specific things i.e. will it fit a fiat?

One last thing: Go and listen to them first... you'll kick yourself if you don't like how it sounds after buying it!

i'll probably end up geting one from mchalfords just so they fit it for me.

thanks for all you help guys

I have a JVC headunit-
I did originally buy it as it was cheap and cheerful with the intention of geting a Pioneer one in a few months..... But i have been so impressed by it that i'm gonna keep it.

The spec that it has for 200notes u can't go wrong IMO

I think your budget puts you out of the Amp + new HU league which is a shame since you have been to the trouble of upgrading your door speakers.
If you want top quality sound you need to look to Amp the speakers properly as the HU amp is woefull - be it 30w, 45 or 60w per channel, Clarion, Alpine, Pioneer or Nakamichi. Same price with fewer features SHOULD equal better quality HU. Fancy displays won't help your music or your driving LoL.

replace the cabling to its suprising how spending a few quid on decnt OFC cabling and some gold connectors can make a difference.....
