Punto (Mk2/2b) Punto mk2 1.2 8v running rough

Hello, please can you help. Been running my Punto low on fuel, till light comes on and some lately. Filled up with petrol recently and shortly after leaving the forecourt the engine started running rough, lack of power when I accelerated. Eventually the car spluttered to a holt on a hill. Felt like it was running out of fuel. I have since changed the petrol pump but the fault still exists. I can dive it on the flat up to about 20 mph seems to.run ok, as soon as I go up an incline the engine flutters and losses power. If I throttle back it runs better. Any ideas?

Is the Engine management light on?

Did you fill up with the correct fuel and was it from a mainstream brand garage or small town one?

From your brief description I would suspect contaminated fuel which has possibly damaged the Lambda sensor. However its just a guess and we need more info.
