Technical Punto misfire

Hi all,
my 18 year old punto is misfiring when i change down to a lower gear,itdrives fine on the motorway,but when i accelerate out of a corner after changing down it seems to splutter on 2 cyclinders for about 2 to 3 seconds,the full power again.
I have changed the spark plugs,refitted new leads,the coil pack was changed last year,one of the cheaper ones!
so what could my problem be.
dont think its the head gasket as the oil looks fine,except its using more oil than normal.

Is it a 16v.. or an 8v??

Plenty of possibilities.. even that it is 'oiling up' on the overrun.

Do a check of compressiion Wet after Dry .

Then valve clearances.

Valve gear is generally robust.. but at double a current cars design life..

Nothing lasts forever.

Check Idle valve and throttle position sensor aswell.
