Technical Punto Jerking

Technical Punto Jerking

this is an important issue for alot of people can we get it stickied please, at least theres a solution...

My 53 reg mk2b does it when it is cold, once the engine is wamr the jerking goes away.

on a side note (dunno if it related) when in a higher gear (3rd 4th 5th) when i push the accelerator fully down quickly there is a little delay between pressing it and feeling the car accelerate (maybe 1 second delay). It dosent sound as if its missfireing and there no engine lights on or flashing on that i have noticed. Could this be a dirty throttle body? to clean is it simply just spraying it with brake cleaner?

k guyz n gals i fixed my kangaroo car...:D

i stated in my earlier post that i cleaned my map sensor, well i never connected it again (the joys of rushing :p ) so now its connected and all is well, more responsive than ever...

id sudjest all with the problems clean there map sensor or replace it

hope it helps :)

Id just thought I`d add my thoughts to this topic. I have a 1.2 8v engine that suffers from the above Jerking problem. However I have found of that it only happens when my car is cold.

When I was driving out to work this morning (-1 outside) I thought I was going to fly out the window because the jerking was that bad. But after about 15 mins the problem vanished. Its annoying but I wouldn't be bothered spending too much money to fix.

Are you sure some water hasnt got into your spark cables, or are them theyselves old?

Sorry to bump an old thread but the jerking on my mk2b seems to be getting slightly worse, some days it dosent happen and others its pretty bad.

i find if you bring your foot off the accelerator very very slowly it dosent jerk, but if you bring it off nromally or quickly it jerks

read the thread all the way through... it may contain the answer.

Yeh sorry should of mentioned that i have read it all through. . . no-one has come up with a definitive answer, and i dont want to keep chaning things on the off chance. Car last serviced 1000 miles ago in august, (new plugs, oil filters etc...) . . getting good MPG (50.8mpg on the trip, and thats a mixture of town and country driving)

just filled up with petrol today and the jerking is less. Wonder if its todo with fuel pump/fuel pressure maybe

it just seems to be one of those things, a combination of a few different things maybe. I personally think its to do with teh idle control valve.

hi mine jerks too it doesnt make a noise just seems to loose all speed and even when foot right down only moves when it decides to flipping thing and like above stated never does it when take it to a garage iv tried three times typical! any sujestions? for a non engineering woman! i need idiot proof knowledge as i dont understand technical terms thanks ; )

just wondering do u have to reset the ECU after doing this as i dont have the red key so wudnt be able to drive the car if i reset the ECU

after doing what?. .

resetting the ECU (take battery off over night etc..) wont reset the keycodes, you should be able to use your normal key

Guess I've found a solution!! Was reading through all the posts and came across one which said that the clutch might be the problem. Don't remember the name of the member, but s/he suggested that wearing out the clutch a bit may sort the juddering (apparently it has to do with the poor clutch design on puntos).

So I started off my mk1 punto in 3rd gear a couple of times and revved hard before engaging the clutch. And the juddering stopped :D.

I'd certainly recommend that you try this out before replacing all the components that are mentioned earlier in the thread.

Dont do it too often though. You might just land up having to install a new clutch.

Cheers,
Nauzad

Well i have booked the car in at a local rolling road testing garage for next week, as they said your average diagnostic check dont always tell you what is wrong so will post back here if a problem as been found
