This is about the most informative thing I've seen on the Throttle Body conversion and the number and quality of photographs is excellent. It's certainly a very comprehensive 'How-to' on the subject and would be well worth making into a 'sticky'.

I can't wait to see how well Mr Cinq goes after all the effort......

Tosh

I wonder where he gets an inherited skill like that??

Hi Brian

As I wrote to you earlier in this thread: it is difficult to fit the injector part from the Cinq/Punto 60 to the TB part from Punto 75.

The work from you and your dad's m8 looks like top quality (y)

Still you must admit that is wasn't as easy as you thought... ;)

Cheers Brian :)

/Tricker...

PS. you're still 2mm behind ;)

It will be very shortly, I was planning on getting it done this week but I already had plans, so it looks like its going to be next week when it gets fitted (fingers crossed :D )

I'll let you know when it's fitted to my car.

Sorry no updates on this as yet, I've got a busy couple of weeks ahead, where I'm working a combination of virtually everday and every nite but I've got the odd day where if the weather's kind I might be able to fit getting my TB on.

I'll keep you posted.

Hey ppl,

I've got almost the same setup as DJ.

A 38mm punto 75 Bottom part with a 60 top section. re-tapered throat and knife edged butterfly and bored out plastic spacer. Polished

But I cheated and got it off 'AIJ29'

I fitted it yesterday and ive noticed a big increase in torque!

It now climbs up hills instead of struggling, mostly in low rpm you notice the difference but it certainly has improved the 0-60 as well! :D

Hope you get yours on soon DJ, it looks really nice. (y)

A LOT of work has gone into yours, unfortunatly i dont have any pics as i've fitted it :(

EDIT: I've just noticed the dates, you got it fitted yet? lol

Opps to be perfectly honest I completely forgot about updating this thread once I'd fitted my throttle body

Well as you've probably guessed, YES it's fitted, in fact I think I put it on only a couple of weeks after my last post (06-05-2005).

I must admit I was really impressed at what a difference this made to the whole feel of my car, as "chris4500uk" says there seems to be a lot more torque and the car seems to pull from much further down the rev range than it ever did before.

The car also seems to rev much more freely and doesn't feel as if its struggling when you get to the higher revs, which is something it used to do with the standard throttle body fitted.

I'd definitely recommend this to anyone, and although you'll have to find someone to the machining, it really is quite an easy modification to carry out.

Ok it might have taken me 4 months from start to finish but that's only because I'm a perfectionist and I wanted every single thing to be exactly right before fitting it to my car. But even if it did take me that long, I think it was totally worth it. :D

Hi, read through this thread i am going to attempt to do this modification aswell. When i look at the modified throttle body of the 75 am i right in thinking that the engineer (blacke pete) turned the tb out using a lathe to match the cinq injection part of the tb?

thanks
dan

Dan,

Yeah thats exactly right, he turned out the bottom half of the Punto 75 throttle body on his laith, however a little bit of work also needs to be carried out to the underside of the top half of the Cinq throttle body.

Because the top half of the throttle body is not designed to fit the bottom half of the Punto 75 throttle body there are two little lugs that stick out arround the securing bolts that hold the throttle body to the manifold.
These need to be cut back in order to create a circular opening that matches the punto 75 botom half. A little hard to explain but once you try and mate the two parts together it'll be easy to see what I mena.

Hope that helps.

Brian

thats helps a lot thanks for replying, now i need to get a 75 throttle body

i just cheated and got one of Trickers:p :p makes a good differance.i got mine for £90 second hand.Really easy to fit.i just needed to crank up the fuel pressure abit as there was a little 'lag'

I have the bottom half of a Punto 75 that has been modified by 'Black Peter' for sale in the clasifieds. :)

hi thanks for letting me know only just read it and i am picking up a 75 throttle body tomorrow.

I am an engineer and have access to the machine shop at work so i will be doing it myself just need a 60 tb now.

I will be fitting this my punto 60 looking forward to the project. :)

TBH Id just look at the possibility of boring a 30mm TB to much bigger...

I have a 30mm sat here, going to see the machinist tomorrow. I reckon its basically a job of boring the TB to a press-fit OD of some appropriate tube, press fitting that in, then drilling in holes for the bearings / shaft and milling the whole lot flat again.

I found that the butterfly in a 60mm TB is 32.1 +/-0.05mm, so isnt ovalised as greatly as the machinist reckons (may as well be circular as its not critical - the ICV will control airflow through the TB if needed..). So Im thinking about throwing some brass in a lathe and having a play :)

Yes, it looks pretty simple to just machine out the centre, but you would have to clamp the throttle body on a milling machine or lathe and then make sure the tb is concentric by clocking it up. If not the new hole you bore out will be off centre and the shaft for the butterfly will be in the wrong place.

I could do it if i had the time but technically i am not supposed to use the machines at work for non work related jobs so just matching up the 75 to a spi unit will be a lot quicker.

hope this makes sense

Plus what I am doing will be unique and no-one else will have a throttle body the same, as I am getting my dad's friend to modify the TB and the alloy spacer block, plus the inlet hole on the inlet manifold, so it should be really good.

Unique in that you've done it (and most of the thinking through, too) but I'm sure one of the Italian guys (or the Greek guys who hang about with Asteris on the Italian Cento forum) has already done it. WTH, go for it!
