Hi Peeps.
Any MOT inspectors out there?
How much free movement of the steering wheel is permisable?
At a standstill, the steering wheel can be felt to move slightly side to side, up and down and to all points of the compass. There is no fore and aft movement.
The car has manual steering with height and reach adjustment for the steering wheel.
The wheel is (Was) securely bolted the the steering column.
Having now stripped back as far as to expose the upper column mounts, I have confirmed that the issue is wear in either the top end bearing or the universal joint.
Do I need to fork out for a replacement steering column, or is this a known design issue with the Punto?
Thank you for all replies.
