Hi all I'm new to this site and have a problem I hope someone can shed some light on.
Few weeks ago my wifes punto threw a code for the intake camshaft timing over advanced, I have never worked on a Fiat so got myself a Haynes and a cambelt kit and fitted the new belt exactly as the Haynes describes, including cracking the cam sprocket nut to achieve correct tension.
This was done as the belt and tensioners life span was unknown and thought it would be the best place to start, the result was good and for a few days we had no issues, the code however has now returned.
After further research I pulled the vct solenoid off to take a look and attempt testing, I hot wired the solenoid and the piston inside moves back and forth although has only slight movement.
Further inspection I can see 3 oil ports in the solenoid and on the mating face on the head, 2 of these ports are oil stained from use but one of the ports specifically the one closest to the cam sprocket appears clean and free from any oil staining whatsoever.
Unsure where to go from here am I to think the ports are somehow blocked or is the solenoid not doing its job properly, or am I barking up the wrong tree altogether? Any advice would be appreciated thanks
